Book Description

August 1, 2007
Damian St. Giles has woken up before with a sore head from imbibing too much mead, but finding himself naked and shackled to a bed is an entirely new experience. As if in a dream, a flame-haired enchantress appears and offers him a brew to ease his pain...and enflame his desire. He soon realizes this Highland beauty has given him a potent aphrodisiac and she is fully prepared to take all his body has to offer...Lady Aithinne Ogilvie knows she must treat this man as nothing more than a stud, for that is what he is to her...a means to get her with child and thus produce an heir who will save her inheritance from ruthless Scottish warriors and greedy King Edward. Yet she cannot deny the instant bond she feels for this handsome stranger - and the feeling that it will be the prisoner in her bed who will end up laying claim to her heart.

"Like a bard of old, MacGillivray spins a tale of knights and ladies, battles of will and trials by combat, myth and magic and sexual tension..." -- Kathe Robins, Romantic Times

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent read but nothing spectacular..., April 13, 2008

I read this one without having read the first one and I don't have an overwhelming urge to go and read the first one. It's a decent enough story. Woman alone - pretending to have a husband to keep her property. The warrior who thought he was in love with his cousin's wife but soon realizes that it's really this other woman who's his soulmate. She drugs him and has sex with him to get pregnant. Mayhem and love ensues. Of course there is an evil plot. She has some brothers who I could have done without as well as a man servant who's strangeness was more of a distraction than a quaint eccentricity for me. It's a nice read when you have nothing else going on but I'll wait and check the library first before buying her next one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Book #2, August 11, 2007
By
Reba Belle (Lone Star State) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In Her Bed (The Dragons of Challon, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Looks like I will be the "voice of dissent" here. First of all, I want to go on record as saying how well written "A Restless Knight" (book #1) was.

The style of book #2 (this one) is different as it occurs AT THE SAME TIME, BUT FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE as book #1. It was kinda neat, actually; except that there was repeat scenes and EXACT dialogue from book #1 throughout--but again from the perspective of Damien or Aithinne. Yet, when you already know the final outcome(s) kinda puts a "blah" on the suspense/drama.

Okay, that repetition aside, there was a great deal of repeated conversations and thoughts from this book alone. Case in point, Evelynour tells Aithinne something, Aithinne then repeats it to several others and unfortunately, we have to read that same information over and over again. This happens throught the book. And dreams that we read, then experience--almost verbatum. Come on...

Also, I did not like Damien's character! Up until the final millimeter of the book he showed very little feeling for Aithinne other than as a bed partner. It even appeared that he USED her in bed thinking of Tamlyn.

And, that entire "he loves Tamlyn" just got old.

And, all the arguing! ugh

The 3 brothers and guard didn't add to the story, but took away from it. Again, my opinion.

All the jealousy was just tiring. If you remember in book 1 it was Tamlyn that felt Aithinne was the "prettier" cousin. "Wish" (LOL) they could have somehow come to terms with that early in this book.

Finally, the title, "In Her Bed." Well, with a title like that can't really take the book to the local auto shop to read while having the car repaired, huh?

There it is, the voice of dissent. Sorry. I really wanted to like this book. I read book #1--twice.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my cup of tea, April 16, 2008
This review is from: In Her Bed (The Dragons of Challon, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
I decided to pick up this book and her other dragons of challon book after hearing about it, and I read this one after the first one.

*sigh* I did finish this book, I did like it better than the first book. I liked the plot a little bit better on this one. It was interesting to see Aithinne and Damien's point of view in this book. However, I did find myself skimming over the repeated dialouge at some parts.

Still, I had a problem with the flat characters and bad dialouge.

This book and its counterpart were just not my cup of tea!
