Her Best Kept Secret by Brenda Harlen
Silhouette Special Edition # 1756 - May 2006
Family Business - Book # 5
Jenny Anderson loves her adoptive parents very much, but she's never been able to get over the feelings of rejection from her birth mother. She left the US to live near her parents in Tokyo, after a long term relationship fell apart. Richard Warren is Hanson Media's corporate attorney and he's in Tokyo negotiating a merger with TAKA Corp When he sets eyes on Jenny, he's intrigued and voices his interest to a TAKA executive. Jenny works for a newspaper owned by TAKA, and is put on the spot to show Richard around, much to her displeasure. Jenny's upfront with Richard, she doesn't want to get involved with him, he's short term and she's looking for long term. Richard agrees with her, but he can't ignore his attraction and he pursues her. When Richard learns the identity of Jenny's birth mother, he pushes her to meet her, something Jenny resists greatly.
I liked both Richard and Jenny. I didn't really find this a remarkable story, but it was enjoyable. Ms. Harlen has a wonderful way developing her characters, and Richard and Jenny are like real people.
