Book Description

March 25, 2008
From the glittering ballrooms of Regency England to the sapphire waters of the Mediterranean, the dazzling finale of Gaelen Foley’s Spice trilogy unfurls the passionate tale of a rebel princess and the powerful warrior destined to become her champion.

Princess Sophia was only a child when Napoleon conquered the island paradise ruled by her father. Raised in England and now twenty-one, she means to claim the throne that is rightfully hers and bring peace to her war-torn land. But an ambush by enemies forces Sophia into hiding outside London. Disguising herself as a peasant girl until she can safely return, she meets Major Gabriel Knight, a wounded warrior whose brush with death has utterly changed him.

Heir to a great fortune, and a master swordsman, Gabriel has given up his worldly possessions and laid down his arms. Sophia is fascinated by his brooding magnetism, and Gabriel, lured by her fiery beauty and healed by her touch, is drawn back inexorably toward the world of the living.

But when Sophia’s royal destiny is revealed, Gabriel knows he must take up his sword again, whatever the cost, to protect his princess from those who would destroy her. And as longing blossoms into passion, Gabriel discovers the one cause that is truly worth fighting for. . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars Best one in trilogy, 4 1/2 stars, March 26, 2008
This review is from: Her Every Pleasure: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm a huge sucker for princess/bodyguard romances, and this one was no exception.

In terms of the characters, Gabriel was a hero to die for, and Princess Sophia was a strong queen to-be and every bit his equal. I like that there was some jealousy and tension on both ends during certain parts of the story, but no Big Misunderstanding, and that the characters were able to communicate with each other and resolve these issues rather quickly.

I give this read 4.5 stars (rounds up to 5) because it is a beautifully written love story that is a strong stand-alone read on its own. Not 5 stars because I'm biased and have already read a story with a very similar plot by this author before (Princess -- think Darius and Seraphina, this princess' name even starts with an "S," she also happens to rule a small made-up kingdom somewhere in the Mediterranean, also happens to have the dark/exotic look, except I liked Sophia's character much better than Seraphina's). Also, I didn't care much for the author's depiction of the secondary characters in this story (mainly, the villains) because they seemed rather one-dimensional, so I ended up skimming over those parts.

However, what really made Her Every Pleasure memorable for is that it deals with serious issues like death (and what happens thereafter), destiny (or pre-destination), things that I don't think Foley has directly touched upon before.

Also, I thought a couple of the love scenes were quite creative and included some hot stuff I haven't read from her before, so I applaud her for that as well.

Pick this one up if you haven't already, especially if you haven't already read "Princess" by this author -- it's definitely better than a lot of the other stuff out there.

Happy reading =)

3.0 out of 5 stars Not one of my favorite, but sad to see the end of the Knights, June 24, 2008

This review is from: Her Every Pleasure: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm afraid that Gaelen Foley is being pressured by her publishers to get the books out quickly, because I've noticed the quality has gone down as the months between books has also gone down. This is a terrible shame, because she quickly became one of my favorite authors when I first read The Duke years ago. Unlike most reviewers, I really liked Lizzie and Alec's books; they were two of my favorites, actually. I never quite got into the Spice Trilogy, and this was actually my least favorite. The plot sounded good...definitely more exciting and interesting than Derek's book...but I just couldn't get into it. Foley put in the lovely words and such, but I didn't believe it. There was no magic, and I don't know why, but I didn't care what happened to any of them one bit.
I hate how Griff sounded in this book. He came off looking like a total jerk towards women.
But anyways, I'm sorry to see the Knight series end. Even if I didn't love the book, I still LOOOOOVE me some Knights. Love the Knights! The bottom line, though is that Gaelen Foley's books are better than most of what's out there, even ones I don't love.
I hoooooope she takes her time on her next project!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Started off excellent.., April 22, 2008

In the beginning the chemistry was wonderful and the story was engrossing. I loved both Sophia and Gabriel's characters. But right around the middle they lost their personalities and the story line was unconvincing. I didn't care at all about Sophia's kingdom and I disliked her in her princess persona. Gabriel lost some of his charm too. It would have beeen an excellent read if the whole princess thing had been dropped.
