HER MONTANA MAN - CHERYL ST. JOHN
Eliza Jane Sutherland has lived in Silver Bend, Montana all her life. She hasn't had time for frivolities as she takes care of her invalid sister Jenny Lee and her nephew Tyler, since the death of her parents. Eliza has raised Tyler almost as her own son, since her sister's weak heart has prevented Jenny Lee to properly bring up Tyler. Jenny married Royce Dunlap, an unscrupulous and corrupted opportunist who worked in her father's brickyard and choose Jenny Lee solely for the family money. Only Eliza Jane knows how vile and degraded Royce is. After Jenny's death, Royce wants to retain all of the Sutherland's wealth and is forcing Eliza to marry him to ensure he owns all of the business. Eliza is devastated by her sister's passing. Her carefully crafted plans to flee Silver Bend with Tyler are dashed when she realizes that Royce has found her hidden savings. She knows she can't stay in her parent's house with Royce and makes a bold attempt to gain time and put some distance between her and her loathsome brother in law. At her sister's wake she announces that she will be moving to the town's hotel with her nephew Tyler, as she is unable to remain in her home un-chaperoned with Royce. Jonas Black owns of the hotel and town saloon. After a hard life he is now a respected citizen and his business is prospering in Silver Bend. Jonas has admired Eliza Jane's beauty from afar and is baffled when she comes to stay at his hotel and asks him for employment, making him wonder what kind of secrets she is hiding. Jonas and Eliza fight their attraction but soon succumb to their emotions. As they kiss out on the front porch one evening, Jonas is shot. While he is recuperating Eliza realizes she is coming to care for Jonas with his caring demeanor and gentle heart. But Eliza's has secrets she will never reveal and is bound and determined not to surrender to her feelings. Beautifully written and brimming with warmth and tenderness - Her Montana Man - is another fabulous book by Cheryl St. John. An amazingly gifted writer, St. John knows exactly how to draw forth the essence of the human spirit. She possesses an uncanny gift of bringing out each heartfelt emotion making you laugh and cry with her prose. Her Western Romances depict the rugged and often violent era of the old West. Each character becomes so real, their emotions and trials almost become your own. Fans of Western Americana Romance will devour this little gem of a book.

Perfect! Don't Miss this Book!!,
This review is from: Her Montana Man (Harlequin Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
Back cover blurb:
Driven by duty and desire. Protecting people runs through Jonas Black's blood and Eliza Jane Sutherland is one woman who needs his strong arms around her. A rugged Montana man, Jonas will guard Eliza from her vile brother-in-law as fiercely as he guards his own heart. But though he can figh her enemies, he can't fight the attraction between them. Soon Jonas is sure they have a future together - only Eliza hides secrets that could everything. I can't tell a lie - I'm a little in love with Jonas Black. I know he's a fictional character, but a girl can dream. It's so refreshing to find a hero that doesn't belittle or bully the heroine. Jonas is a genuine good guy in the best sense of the word. He's not wimpy or whiny - he's tough when he needs to be and strong no matter what. Eliza Jane is a wonderful heroine. She's strong without being shrill and tough without being annoying. I highly recommend "Her Montana Man". If this is your first time reading Cheryl St. John, be sure and check out her backlist. She's written 30 books without sacrificing quality. I give this book five stars for plotting, pacing, and believable characters.

A Very Satisfying Read!,

This review is from: Her Montana Man (Harlequin Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have very little time to read for pleasure so to find a book that holds my interest from beginning to end, one that I read in one sitting, always makes the hours spent on my favorite pasttime well worth while.
Her Montana Man is one such read. Loved it! Pamela S Thibodeaux, Author The Inheritance "Inspirational with an Edge!" (TM)

Simple and quick read,

Having read the brilliant His Secondhand Wife by this author, I expected characters with depth and substance. Sadly, this was not the case here.
This story is more event based and while the main characters are likeable, they never really develop and the declared emotions lack conviction. It is a pleasant and relatively quick read with an interesting storyline, but all fairly superficial.

Cheryl St. John produces predictable romances, which have some touching scenes. This book contained an obvious plot with none of the unique scenes I come to expect from her. If you are looking for filler quick read that will be quickly forgotten then read this book. It will not end up on your keep shelf.

Touching historical romance, great hero too!,

Her Montana Man by Cheryl St. John is a touching historical romance with a great hero! It is about Eliza Jane Sutherland and Jonas Black, a saloon and hotel owner who finds himself smitten with Eliza. Eliza moves into Jonas's hotel to get away from her lecherous brother-in-law who wants to marry her now that her sister has died. Eliza wants nothing to do with him, and she hopes that Jonas will help her. She wants him to buy her shares of her father's company so she can take the money and leave with her nephew.
Jonas's protective instincts come out with Eliza, and he finds himself wanting to help her, but also, not wanting to let her go. Jonas is great and he is a perfect example of a real knight in shining armor. He takes a gunshot for her, buys half of her father's company, and rescues her when she is kidnapped. Plus, he is in love with her and wants to marry her. This is a great book! 5 stars!

Cheryl St. John is one of the best Western Historical authors out there. I have read every book she has ever written and this is one of her best yet. It only took me a day and a half to read "Her Montana Man", it was a hard one to put down. I highly recommend this author, no matter which book you read!!!

Pretty darn dull,
This review is from: Her Montana Man (Harlequin Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
RT rated this story with 3 stars. I found it to be overrated. It felt like it started in the wrong place with a bunch of dull backstory. The story lacked tension. No push/pull between the H & H. Too much interior thoughts. Slow. Uninspiring writing. It wasn't worth my time to finish it.

Nice romance - though not too complicated, and the characters are a bit two dimensional. But overall a good western-romance about the weight on women when it comes to reputations.
