Book Description

Revenge is sweet... or is it?

Although some say revenge is a dish best served cold, Christina Matteo may have gone a bit too far by waiting 15 years to get back at the bully who ruined her high school years with a cruel prank. But now, she's no longer the shy & nerdy girl she used to be, even though Bill Havenwood is still the same self-absorbed, jerk son-of-a-billionaire that he's always been. So when the perfect plan for revenge occurs to her, how can she resist?

Unfortunately, there's another saying about the best laid plans... and just like that, she goes from dreams of vengeance to harsh reality when she ends up owing the creep $50,000. That's money she doesn't have, and money he doesn't need!

When Bill suggests an indecent proposal, where she has to pretend to be his fiancée to satisfy an ultimatum handed down by his father, Christina has no choice but to agree. But that doesn't mean she can't continue with her plans for revenge...

Unfortunately for her, she's not the only one using deceit to push through secret agendas...

Here's what some previous readers had to say about Her Perfect Revenge:

"I was doubled over with laughter many, many times."
"I ended up not being able to put this book down."
"This book has everything a good book should have. Humor, romance, and a little turmoil is always a good recipe."
"I recently read it again and it made me remember why I love this book so much."
"Be ready to laugh so hard it hurts."

5.0 out of 5 stars Her Perfect Revenge by Anna Mara April 13, 2008
Her Perfect Revenge
I enjoyed reading this book so much that I would highly recommend it to everyone that I know. If anyone wants to read a very good romance novel then this is it. Anna Mara you are a wonderful writer and you had my attention from page one. I usually know after the first few pages on starting a book whether I will like it or not and this book got my attention immediately. It was a page-turner and it is a keeper. It is also a book that I would read over again.

It was a nice change to read a romance novel with a woman that has a very strong personality and doesn't let the man walk all over her. This book made me laugh, it made me sad and it almost brought me to tears and I usually do not cry when I read a book.

Anna Mara please keep on writing - you do an excellent job. I am looking forward to seeing your another new book on the market from you soon.

When she was fifteen, Christina Matteo was quiet and a little nerdy. The school hunks and drunks played a horrible prank on her that caused her parents to ship her away to boarding school; away from her family and her best friend, Jenny.

She's no longer the insecure metal mouth and she has grown into a beautiful woman. She doesn't make a lot of money but enjoys her job as a photojournalist. When she spots Bill Havenwood 16 years later while on assignment all the hate and humiliation she felt at his hands comes rushing back. She decides to get back at the handsome rich boy and teach him a lesson; she plots "Her Perfect Revenge." But when she rear ends his Ferrari, the tables get turned and Christina gets in deeper than she ever thought.

What stopped me from giving it five stars was I felt there was a bit too much deceit going on and for far too long. There aren't very many people in this story that aren't elbows deep in some kind of dishonesty and it got a little old after a while. I longed for the main characters to have a real discussion. All the deception caused a bit of repetition here and there. I also didn't like how one innocent character was used at the end as a pawn, it was unnecessary and none of the characters gave it a second thought.

At times there were just way too many terms of endearment thrown around. Maybe it's just me, but all the darlings, my love, etc., seemed unnatural and a little too cheesy for this chick.

Despite those flaws, this was a cute and fun story. At over 400 pages it was surprisingly easy to get through. It's written in a way that makes it easy for a reader to get swept up in it and not want to put it down. One of those books where you find yourself saying, "Just one more chapter, then I will put down.

1.0 out of 5 stars A disappointment... June 25, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Wow, I did not like this book. I am really not difficult to please and this book had so much potential, but by halfway through I just couldn't take anymore. I did manage to make it to the end, but I had to skim in order to get there. The main character was ridiculous in her inability to acknowledge that Bill had changed. She was ridiculous in her persistence with her revenge plot even after she realized she'd fallen in love. She was ridiculous to believe Bill's scorned ex-girlfriend (who in turn went to ridiculous lengths to extract her own revenge). She was ridiculous to even consider continuing on a path that would also jeopardize a cause she cared about. Her stubbornness and vitriol were over the top and made her very unlikeable. The plot was overly predictable, yet it just didn't make sense. I'm left with the sense that I sat down expecting to eat a fun and festive restaurant meal, but ended up with a convenience store hot dog.

4.0 out of 5 stars When Revenge Backfires........................... April 17, 2008
After spotting him for the first time in over fifteen years, Christina Matteo decides to enact revenge against the man who played a prank on her in high school. It was, after all, the turning point in her young life. She still can't forget the fact that that incident had led to her being put into boarding school. And she still hasn't forgiven the drunken creep Bill Havenwood either. It was time for him too pay.

Through a series of events, Christina becomes Bill's fake fiance. That's fine by her. That way she'll be closer to her 'prey' and get what she wants -all the dirt she can find. And he'll get what he wants. But things are often not what they seem. Maybe Bill is not such a bad guy after all and maybe he's developing some feelings for Christina. And then just maybe Christina soon thinks that this whole get-back-at-you plan is a really bad idea. Could she be falling for him too?

A really nice debut. Anyone who enjoys 'revenge' plots in contemporary romance should read this one. Although some of the writing was repetitive and revenge may have gone on too long, I found the characters and their antics (many were hilarious) likable. Bill really grew on me, he did a lot of maturing in my eyes. I also liked how Mara (author) tackled the difficult issue of recovering alcoholism -realistic, instead of being just a fluff piece.

The maturation of Christina, a really spunky go-get-em heroine, is done well too. The sparks fly between her and Bill with some really steamy scenes. But I'm not really sure if I preferred their affectionate exchanges over their arguments. Because boy those two have some fights!

There are also a set of several interesting secondary characters with Bill's father being my favorite.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mara forgot the important side of this category.
Not Mara's best effort, predictability is standard in this genre, so no points off there, the real issue of discord is that this book is distinctly lacking in the "comedy"... Read more

More About the Author

I've been writing for a few years now, having studied screenwriting at a well known film school. I've always loved creating romantic stories and wanting to try my hand at penning a novel, I decided to turn one of my screenplays into a book. HER PERFECT REVENGE was born.

But because I come from a screenwriting background, I tend to write my books more like movies. As you read my stories, you'll find yourself 'watching' that film playing inside your head while at the same time, feeling all of the emotions that my crazy characters are going through. I hope you have FUN!

HER PERFECT REVENGE has also been released as a Japanese manga novel by Ohzora Publishing. Illustrations were done by artist Hiromi Kobayashi.

WHY ROMEO HATES JULIET, another romantic comedy, is my second book.

SIN & SAVAGE, a romantic thrill ride, is my third.
