Mallory Baines recently took her software company public and made enough money that she doesn't have to do anything she doesn't want to do. What she wants to do is renovate her Victorian house that she bought in Silicon Valley and do voice overs in radio commercials. Duncan Moore is a private investigator hired by a computer hardware company to track down who's stealing computer chips from them. The investigation leads to Mallory's neighbor across the street. Duncan convinces Mallory to let him observe what's happening in her neighborhood from her house by telling her he's after a cheating spouse. Mallory soon figure out the truth about Duncan's investigation and is determined to help him solve his case. The cover story for Duncan being in Mallory's house starts out to be that he's contractor helping her with renovations but when her mother pops over while Duncan is still in the shower, the story changes to he's her new boyfriend. Sometime during pretending to be boyfriend and girlfriend, the line with reality start to blur and Mallory and Duncan begin to find themselves falling in love with each other.Mallory is a great romantic heroine. She is smart, sexy and funny. Duncan is very sexy. There is also a great cast of secondary characters.

Temptation Plus!!!,
By Norah Wilson (New Brunswick, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Her Private Eye (Mass Market Paperback)
This debut Temptation from Shannon Hollis delivers all the heat and sass you'd expect from the line, but it's got lots more. These characters will make you smile, laugh, yearn, the whole nine yards. And they'll stay with you long after you long after you put the book down. A definite keeper!

Her Private Eye just rocks along. The characters are wonderful, and the story pulls the reader right in. Witty dialogue is frosting on the cake. I really enjoyed this book--it has a permanent place on my keeper shelf.

Her Private Eye by Shannon Hollis
Harlequin Temptation # 931 - June 2003 After being betrayed by the woman he loved and losing his job with the Denver P.D., Duncan moves to California with his former partner. Now running his own P.I. firm, Duncan's been hired to find out who's been stealing valuable computer modules and stop them before the Wall Street public discover one of Silicon Valley's brightest companies is losing money. Recently Mallery sold her half of the lucrative software company she help found and at the same time she shed her over powering fiancée. Now's she's got the millions to just relax and enjoy her life. So she buys a wonderful run down Victorian, and decides to take on the renos herself. Duncan knocks on her door to ask if he can use her house for PI surveillance but Mallory's reluctant to let any man into her space. When something scares Mallory in the night, she soon finds herself with a roommate, one she's having a hard time keeping at arms length. Duncan can't keep himself from fantasizing about Mallory, but he does his best to keep his hands off. After all, it was a woman that ruined his career before on a case; he's not about to let that happen again. I liked both these characters very much. It was fun the way Duncan wormed his way into Mallory's life. I admired the way Mallory handled her overbearing mother and the courage she had to stand her ground and not let others influence her decisions. Another great debut! I have a massive TBR pile. Sometimes it's just easier to reach for authors that I've enjoyed before, esp. if they are linked stories. Ms. Hollis has some recent Blaze's in my TBR pile, so I thought it would be fun to read her debut before reading those. I know with many of my favourite authors, I've really enjoyed going back to their beginnings. I'm very much looking forward to reading more from Ms. Hollis :D
