Book Description

Hera, member of the Gultur race governing the Seven Islands, thought she knew right from wrong and what her future held in store. A chance meeting with a lesser mortal, though, will turn her world upside down and force her to see her race and the laws with different eyes. For Hera, knowledge means action, so she sets out to put things right and change her world.

Taking place in the World of the Seven Islands almost three years before the events in Rex Rising, this is the story of Hera's first confrontation with the truth.

Warning: This is not a prequel. It is a story in the world of Rex Rising.
Some profanity and violence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Short Book - Read Rex Rising First!! January 17, 2012
By Shintze
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Great short book that gives some more background story to the Elei's Chronicles.
However, do read Rex Rising first, and then this. If you do it the other way around it will spoil some surprises in the other book.

Also, after the end of this book there are two chapters of Rex Rising the author apparently included to promote that book. Make sure to read the first of the two chapters as it is not included in the final version of Rex Rising and adds some more information to the story.

So in my oppinion, the order should go:
1. Rex Rising
2. Hera
3. Rex Rising Unreleased Chapter 1
4. Rex Cresting (when it comes out)

4.0 out of 5 stars Brave New World November 1, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
The first thing that struck me about this little story is the beautiful detail in the writing. Being able to describe a place so that the reader can imagine themselves there demonstrates great talent and Ms Thoma has it. I was in Hera's craft as it zipped over the water, with Hera as she escaped - oops not going to spoil the story. There's a lot packed into this tale, showing the journey towards enlightment of the heroine, Hera. Hera has spent her young life accepting what she's been told until an unexpected discovery makes her begin to question what she believed were truths. Ms Thoma gives us a heroine who is brave and resourceful and a world that's strange and compelling. This is a novella NOT to be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Story! November 6, 2011
By Mary
Format:Kindle Edition
I really enjoyed learning more about this character. I liked her in Rex Rising, and it's fantastic to see more of how she was brought up and how she came to be who she is in that book. I liked learning more about the unique world as well, which is just such an interesting place to spend some time! Ms. Thoma's writing style drew me in and I enjoy the way she turns a phrase and her vivid descriptions of the landscape. I also liked the way that this story brought up more questions about the world and the secrets that are hinted at in Rex Rising at the same time that it answered some. I can't wait to read more in this series!
