5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely enchanting!
The Heralds of Valdemar Trilogy is perhaps one of the luckiest finds I ever made. I ordered it as a selection from a Sci-Fi & Fantasy book club on a whim. It has become my all time favorite book. 3.0 out of 5 stars this book was ok
I enjoyed reading this book but it was'nt as good as the Last Herald Mage. I did'nt like Talia much because her character was flat, one sided. She was NICE. That's it. Just nice. And boring. However, this book is still good and a nice easy read.

Mercedes Lackey infuses such life and excitement into her characters that I felt like I knew Talia personally. I cried when she was hurting and was ecstatic when she found joy! I couldn't put it down. It started my fascination with Valdemar and Mercedes Lackey as well as Fantasy in general. I've lent it to many friends and everyone says the same thing...This is an amazing book!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heralds of Valdemar - Talia and Roland, February 2, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Heralds of Valdemar Trilogy: Arrows of the Queen, Arrow's Flight, Arrow's Fall (Paperback)
I happened on this book when I was looking for one more book to fill my order for joining a book club. It sounded interesting, but I never heard of the author before. Once I got it and read it, I could not put the book down! I fell in love with the title character Talia and the strength and humanity she possessed. Every character in this book becomes a real person, someone you care about, cry with, laugh with and hold your breath for. The world that Mercedes Lackey has created is far and away better than our own. I have lent this series to quite a few friends and every single person I have lent it to has enjoyed it so much they have purchased the book on their own to read again and again. This is my favorite book. Vaneyl - The Last Herald Mage is also completely fantastic. Anyone who reads this series shall never for one minute regret it. Mercedes Lackey, thank you so much for giving me a world that I have fallen in love with and wish to return to again and again. A world where honor, magic and love are real and alive and thank you for in all the books in this series showing that humanity, love and honor are not exclusively for humans and sometimes done better by those who are not. This series contains many parts and every one is a treasure to read and read again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genesis: The start of one of the best fantasy worlds around, March 15, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Heralds of Valdemar Trilogy: Arrows of the Queen, Arrow's Flight, Arrow's Fall (Paperback)
These three books are well written and insightful. Mercedes has the ability to create characters with real problems & emotions, they leap off the pages and into your heart (the heroine, Talia, is a wonderful example). Read her story and learn of Valdemar, an enchanting land of mind-powers, spirit-horses & old fashioned valour...it's more than you've ever imagined. These three books are essential to any Lackey or Valdemar collection and are worth reading many, many times

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic of Light Fantasy, February 10, 2006
By
This review is from: Heralds of Valdemar Trilogy: Arrows of the Queen, Arrow's Flight, Arrow's Fall (Paperback)
I can't believe so few people have reviewed this series! For years, I have taken for granted that the Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey was generally well known. If you haven't experienced any of these books yet, you need to! While I can't say much for the technical quality of the writing and vocabulary (it's, what's the word... flat? repetitive? just plain bad?), the characters sweep you into their world with power unparalleled with ANY OTHER book I've ever read. The emotions pour through the page, so that you literally can not escape. This series, and the Last Herald Mage series are the best of any of the Lackey books I've read (and I've read a lot). They most certainly should not be judged by some of Lackey's other books, some which combine the same simplistic writing with such ridiculous plots they're practically unreadable. This series, on the other hand, should be read by all fantasy fans everywhere- immediately!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best books I have ever read!!!, June 22, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Heralds of Valdemar Trilogy: Arrows of the Queen, Arrow's Flight, Arrow's Fall (Paperback)
The Heralds of Valdemar Trilogy were the first books by Mercedes Lackey that I read and I have since gone on to read all of her books. The Heralds of Valdemar are a indescribably inspirational set of works that I recommend to everyone. But I have One question? Why can't I give them * ******************************......(infinite) stars? Five out of Five. (I would give more but it seems I am unable to).

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL, February 22, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Heralds of Valdemar Trilogy: Arrows of the Queen, Arrow's Flight, Arrow's Fall (Paperback)
I loved this book! (But then again i'm partial to all Lackey's books.) When I met Talia I was wishing I could live in Valdemar.

I will never forget my first experence with Mercedes Lackey's books. My parents have a vast collection of books, so I'm always making new discovery's. One day I'm looking at the very bottom of the shelves and I see a book called Oathbreakers. It enthralled me! My mom saw me with it and said,"Welcome to the beautiful world of Mercedes Lackey!"

This is the start of something GREAT. If you have not read these stories you should. Just be prepared to buy more of her books in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Book That Began The Magic, July 28, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Heralds of Valdemar Trilogy: Arrows of the Queen, Arrow's Flight, Arrow's Fall (Paperback)
I remember it like it was yesterday. In the school library, searching for something to read, my eyes lit on a small book crammed between two oversized teen romance novels. Plucking it from the shelf, I looked at it and read the back, interested. Checking it out, I had no idea what I was introducing myself to. I read it, in awe, and kept wondering about the name on the cover. Mercedes Lackey, she kinda sounded familiar. So one day, after I had read the novel, I left it on the table with my school books and my mother saw it. 'Are you reading this?' she asked me, and when I nodded, smiled. She then handed me a book, The Heralds of Valdemar Trilogy. I delved once again into the mystical land of Valdemar, with it's magic and might, and it has been a treasured part of my world since. I read "The Heralds of Valdemar" over and over, along with Misty's other enchanting trilogies. It's like my mother says, "When people ask you how you can read a book twice, they have obviously never found a book they love." And believe me, I have

5.0 out of 5 stars Valdimar's Peril, May 11, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Heralds of Valdemar Trilogy: Arrows of the Queen, Arrow's Flight, Arrow's Fall (Paperback)
What! Only one review of the Heralds of Valdimar! May the minds of those who lived the books, but did not review them, be blasted by the Last Herald Mage and tossed into the forest of sorrows. Mercedes Lackey is an under recognized, writing prodogy that stands on the same alter as lords of literature such as Robert Jordan or Margaret Weis. She can capture hearts and flame like virtually no other. In fact, Larry Dixon(her husband) must be one excedingly happy fella.... Mercedes Lackey is so full of life and energy, she has enough to personally touch every one of her gates to Valdimar. She touches issues that lesser spirits stay away from, she opens doors that are welded shut by prejudice. Mercedes Lackey and her portals are not something to be spoken lightly of, she is like power, once you have let it in your heart, it will rage like a trapped pheonix and stay forever. For a bond that cannot be broken, for endless hours of enrapturement, step through the shining gate..
