This book lays the foundation for working with herbs especially for newbies. It puts the herbs into categories base on the actions they produce example demulcent, and then Hoffman tells you how a demulcent works on different parts of the body. He gives a basic overview of how to make tinctures, salve and ointments ete. A great book to have if you are starting out. Great info and how to use herbs for healing. I found great help on how to help my daughter ezcema.

This is a good reference for medical alternatives to high priced pharmacy medicine. These were the first drugs used by native peoples all over the world. They still work without many of the side effects of petroleum based drugs of today. Grow them in your back yard or in a pot at home and supply your own remedies at home. Dry them, grind them, make a tea of them.

I've referred to this book a lot over the past two years for research and information. It's a well organized reference for any aspiring herbalist.

Great reading! Learned a lot of good information from this book. Still use it daily when planting and harvesting my herbs.

This is a great book if you are looking for medical herbalism. It is divided up by the action of herbs, body systems, cooking, and herbal uses. It is very detailed.So if you are not looking for something that is in depth for your health, then this is not the book for you. But if you are serious about your health and using herbs to stay healthy, this is a book you should really have. You'll refer to it quite often.

I was looking for a simple book of everyday herbs that would help some of my health problems. This book is very involved with herbs I have never heard of and have no idea of where you could even find them. The book gives you no examples of where to find these exotic herbs. Haven't been able to find anything I could use yet. Not at all what I expected.
