When I received a copy of Herbal Healing for Children to review, I couldn't wait to start reading it.  I was not disappointed.
The book is packed with information on everything from how to use herbs to cure common childhood illnesses to how to make your own herbal remedies to fun herbal garden designs.

Herbal Healing for Children by Demetria Clark is a godsend for parents of children with multiple allergies, particularly when those allergies are medication related. The author takes the reader through a general explanation of the herbs which may be useful in treating common childhood injuries and illnesses. One of the most critical parts of the book deals with when and how herbal treatments should be used. There are warnings about not using herbs with the very young, and there are also urgings to work with the child's physician when attempting to treat the child with herbs.

The book is very well done. It is sectioned according to conditions, herbal treatments and explanations of the various herbal remedies which may be made at home. Herbs used as nutritional supplements as opposed to treatments are also referenced, as are tips for growing your own small herb garden. There is a glossary which supplements the information provided in the main portion of the text.

The author has done an outstanding job of introducing herbal treatments to parents who may be frustrated by traditional medication treatments for their children. As more and more children are surfacing with allergies, the herbal remedies offer an alternative means of safely and effectively treating common childhood ailments. The author is clear and definitive in her introduction of herbal remedies, and she is highly responsible in explaining to parents that herbal treatments are not an inclusive treatment which should be used while ignoring traditional medications. For parents with problem health children, this book is an informative and responsible alternative.

Here is what some parents say:
This book? A veritable treasure trove of herbal/natural/organic wisdom. Highly esteemed and deeply appreciated. If you or any one you know is experiencing this season's ills, please do yourself a favor and treat yourself, or your family or friends, to this timely book of remedies. Highly recommended.

This book is awesome, it has something for every little issue a kid can have. I use it all the time. It is even great for adults too.

Demetria, wow, I love this book. You make it all so simple and it make sense. I can't believe it took me so long to get this book.

As a midwife and herbalist, I found Demetria's book to be a very useful guide to herbal remedies for parents to use for their children. Lots of recipes, personal experience, succinct explanations (important for busy parents!) and instructions on how to make your own medicines make this book enjoyable and easy to use. Her experience and respect for the plants shines through.

I am a newbie to herbalism. I have a 4-year old daughter and also aspire to heal some of my own ills (including some addressed in this book, ie nausea/seasickness) via herbs. I keep reading this book again and again to glean some new tidbit from the wealth of information. I hope someday this will all be old hat to me, and I will know all the herbs in this guide. Until then, I will keep referencing it as I plan which herbs to buy, where to buy them, and learn more about the world of herbalism.

The book is very detailed and useful not just for children but even for adults. I have a four year old son and I often wonder if I could use natural or herbal remedies instead of running to the doctors for common childhood illness like ear infection, flu, cold and fever.

Tips like using garlic for mild ear infection are just the kind of simple remedies that I can use from my kitchen.

The challenge I see with a book like this is that not all herbs or ingredients are easily available, at least not when I have a brawling child to attend to. Sometimes the herbal remedies may take longer to heal and also be more expensive than simple over the counter medication.

Bottomline, this is an easy to read, quick reference book.

I find this book very easy to read, easy to use as a quick-search book if you have already had some experience with herbs, and very good information on using herbs with children. I think it will be a good resource now and in the future.

Although there are some basic methods included inside that I wouldn't use (drying herbs in the microwave, for example), overall this book is a must-have if you have children in the house or in your life. I will be purchasing more copies, make some of the very simple and amazing remedies within and giving them as part of gift baskets at all the future baby showers I attend! I'll also be doing the same as Christmas gifts for my grown children with children. It really is such a fantastic guide and ANYONE can make these home remedies to keep in the pantry for your own family. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!!! Can't say enough! Thank you Demetria Clark!

I love this book! Well-written in an easy to understand format, Demetria guides parents through the many uses of herbal remedies for children. The book provides a glossary of herbal terms, a description of some of the more commonly used herbs as well as detailed recipes for making remedies for common childhood illness. I only wish this book was available when my own children were little.

As a mother of four, a Certified Health Coach and a Director/Owner of two childcare centers....I highly recommend this book. The author, Demetria talks about herbal styles before she jumps into the actual herbs. It's wonderfully organized and not a lengthy read. It's easy to read and she has great herbal remedies. This books title says "children" but this book is good for young adults, middle aged adults everyone. She even has a great remedy for facial toner, mental problems, flu, everything! Great for beginners. Once you become versed in herbal medicines you will learn to use one herb rather than combinations. One more thing I really like about this book is that Demetria touched a bit on drug interactions with herbs. You won't be disappointed.
