Herbert Howell's music is quintessentially English, written for English church architecture and English voices. Rarely does a recording manage to capture the rarified, intellectual and deeply-rooted emotional aspects of these sacred works. Fortunately, Hyperion has, in its typical style, succeeded admirably in all these regards. This recording is a constant source of enjoyment for me, and it is one that I can highly recommend to all lovers of English church music.
