UB40's "Here I am (come and take me)" is a song that's all dressed up with no place to go. The best rendition it ever got was from Susan (Teri Hatcher) on ABC's "Desperate Housewives" as she readied herself for a romantic soiree. It suited her ditzy,loveably clumsy character. Besides,Hatcher is a better singer than all the UB40 boys combined.
With their turgid patois,the UB40 gang attempts to lubricate the paths of romance. They plea "here I am (come and take me),take me by the 'and." They sound rather pathetic. Maybe because they are.... |
