A great album,
By A Customer
This review is from: Here Come the Brides (Audio CD)
First to get a little backround on the The Brides. The Brides are London LeGrand (vocals) Tracii Guns (guitar) Nikki Sixx (bass) and Scott Coogan (drums). Sixx is best known as a member of Motley Crue And Tracii is known for his band L.A. Guns, as well as being the original guitarist for Guns N' Roses, before Slash even. So to the album itself, Shut the F**k Up the first single which is simply amazing, fast punky and aggressive. I Don't Care followers a similar style of "STFU" but has more love song style lyrics I Got A Gun starts off slow, but has a great chorus, which gives LeGrand a chance to show off his vocal skills. 2X Dead is more metal styled song. Brace Yourself is a hard rocker that has a message behind, I think. Natural Born Killers is a great song, starts off bluesy, but the chorus hits with ragey/anti-celebrity lyrics ,"let me be your one and only cockstar/357 with my goddamn onstar/ Natural Born Killers" My favorite song second to "STFU". Life follwers, its an okay song, trying to tell people not to let life pass'em by. Revolution makes a point about society and how people are sucked in mass media, lyrics like, "forced fed white trash rats of today". Only Get So Far, the ballad of the album it's also just okay, I think the guitar line is the same or at least similar to Motley Crue's "On With The Show" from the Album Too Fast For Love. This is a good way to sum up the whole album, this album is similar to Motley's Too Fast, raw powerful, loud and an original for its time. To sum it all up though, this album combines a metal sound with punk ideal, and makes a great album for anyone who like's their rock loud and powerful, a must have for Crue and Guns fans.

This is not 80s rock,
By A Customer
This review is from: Here Come the Brides (Audio CD)
Seems like some of the reviewers here were expecting to hear Theatre of Pain or something. Either that or they just hate Nikki Sixx (more likely). This really doesn't sound anything like 80s rock. I don't understand the criticism of the album only having 9 songs - some of the best albums of all-time had only 9 songs or less - nor do I understand the criticism of the band name. What, you don't like the album because of the name of the band? Huh? This is a very good rock album. Bottom line.

The sound of California Hard Rock still alive and kicking,
By J. H. Infante (Guadalajara, Ja, Mex) - See all my reviews

Good news!!!!! the 80s hard rock sound from california havent die yet and im glad for this, this album is full of fun, is exciting and energetic, the time when bands like Motley Crue LA Guns , Faster Pussycat, GNR etc. was a great time we all had fun then and great memories we keep when we were younger, is refreshing to hear this hard rock style, and you feel like a kid again is almost therapeutic, and i feel sorry for those who have been hard and rude to review this album, surelly they are "nu metal" fans, in five years themselves will critizise "nu metal" like they critizice 80s hard rock now , MTV sells them what they want to sell , but if you are a real fan , get your copy of "here come the brides" as soon as you can.

Much More Than What You'd Expect,
By 8daysawk "8daysawk" (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews

Ther first song out the barn for this CD is the VERY old school LA Guns sounding, 3 chord punk-ish "I Don't Care". Which can be misleading to what the rest of this debut contains. This disc contains so much more depth in the songwriting than you would be led to believe by that single. The evident Nikki Sixx solo compositions (Brace Yourself, Life, Only Get So Far) display a much more mature writing style than you'd expect. Weaving a nice tapestry of hard rock staples, pop sensibilites and new ideas these songs elevate the disc up well beyond anything out there passing itself off as hard rock. These veterans are showing the kiddies how hard rock is really done. The songs where Sixx/Guns contributed equally show I nice blend of the styles of Guns punk influences and Sixx's melodic leanings. The stand out rocker here are "Life", "Revolution" and "Brace Yourself". The latter song showing a nice homage to some early Crue. The power ballad "Only Get So Far" is a song surely missing among todays hard rock kids CDs. Heart string pulling melodies without sounding cheesy or put-on. The blend of harmonies and backing vocals in this song will have you singing along in 2 seconds flat and pushing the repeat button on your CD player. Sixx's decision to go with an unknown singer was a wise decision to cut any comparisons to Motley Crue or LA Guns and is what sets this CD apart from their past works. Something new and something old blending nicely to create a very strong debut. Go out and buy this one - it's worth every penny.

One of the best records of the year.,
By Peyton "Rock" (West Yorkshire, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Here Come the Brides (Audio CD)
No matter who slags this record off in my opinion it is one of the best records ever made and definatly an early contender for album of the year! Combining many different styles, influences and era's Brides of Destruction are set to take over the world. tracci Guns is an extremly under-rated guitarist cos he rocks! Here's a run down.
Shut the f**k up - Not the best song on the album but a great opener, it shows the bands energy and passion! I don't care - What a song this is wicked, proper rock and super grooves this is one hell of a catchy song! I got a gun - reaching for the mixture of soft rock verses with more heavy shouting vocals throughout the verses this is a superb blend and one of my favourite tracks. With a suberb mellow solo from Tracci! 2x Dead - Bringing in slightly heavier grooves this is an amazing song and it is so different vocaly the guitar solo is amazing aswell! Brace Yourself - Another beast of a song this song is outstanding. The musitionship is amazing and realy proves are more than Nikki sixx's side project! Natural Born Killers - The most catchy rock song ever made this is definatly my favourite it rocks! PROPER ROCK! Life - The Brides go for a mellower flavour and it works! not as outstanding as the others but a refreshing change. Le Grands vocals are so varied. Revolution - My least favourite but still overall good song the chorous just lets it down slightly maybe a bit too mainstream but OK! Only get so far - One of the best rock Ballads ever this is a masterpeice! The solo is beautiful and the whole song is fantastic a complete contrast to t6he rest of the album! This is the best album i definatly recommend it You definatly won't regret it. Amazing!

a good reminder of where metal came from,
By Morgan Kelly (New York) - See all my reviews

This is certainly an entertaining listen, but not neccisarily the best you could have hoped for. These guys were known for breaking the norm back in the 80s, but unfortunately, that is why I can't give this 5 stars. Ultimately, all the musical ideas sound recycled from one former band or another, lending the whole affair a sort of stale air to it. However, after seeing their live show, I must say that impressed me a great deal more than this cd.

One of the Top Rock CDs I've Heard In Some Time,
By Ian Scottish (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Here Come the Brides (Audio CD)
It's about time we had a true rock 'n' roll band in action in this day and age, and to me, The Brides are it. I feel that with enough publicity, this is the band that can put true rock back into the mainstream and help wipe out these crappy emo bands. Will it probably happen? Time will tell, but I will say that unfortunatly the mainstream isn't quick to give legends like Nikki Sixx or Tracii Guns a chance because the maintream has no idea what great musicianship, entertainment, or song writing is. That said, no one can take away how great that this CD is. It may be a bit of an EP but all nine tracks are killer. My favorite of which would probably have to be "2x Dead". The last track may seem a bit out there but that's because Nikki Sixx actually wrote the track for country duo Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. Now, if you ask me, they are watered down artists and I'm glad Nikki and Tracii decided to use a heartfelt track like this for their own band instead and help show Nikki's versatility. The album is also enhanced and contains a pretty cool interview with the band. My only complaints would be that they probably could have chosen a better drummer for this band, he doesn't impress me much...he's decent though. The other would be that I wish John Corabi would have stayed with this band on vocals, no disrespect to London but Corabi is clearly the more experienced vocalist. Who knows though, maybe in time I'll end up being a bigger London fan. Over all, this album is great and uncomparable to anyone. Plain and simple, "Here Comes The Brides" has a vintage (yet in some ways modernized) hard rock feel that you just don't hear these days.

Terrible CD...,
By "casbahd" (Nashville, TN) - See all my reviews

Sorry if I'm not as verbose as others when describing this compilation, but it just simply sucks. For such an "all-star" band, there's no originality in lyrics, structure, or melody of the songs. This CD would have been a bomb in the late 80's (which is what it sounds like), much less today. I bought this dog as new today, and I'm taking it to the CD Exchange tomorrow...If they give me a dollar for it I'll take it.

Party like it's 1989,

Talk about a marriage made in hell (or perhaps rehab). Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx joined forces with L.A. Guns guitarist Tracii Guns for the much hyped Brides of Destruction, which also featured (briefly) former Union frontman John Corabi on guitars and newcomer London Legrand on vocals. The band debuted in 2004 with Here Come the Brides.
Not surprisingly, Here Come the Brides draws heavily on the kind of late 80's Sunset Strip hard rock sound that put L.A. Guns and Motley Crue on the map in the first place. It's a loud and nasty rock & roll record with plenty of great hooks and solos, and the kind of swagger and attitude that you'd expect from this (pardon the pun) motley crew of unrepentant hair metallers. This kind of hard charging and hard partying rock album is a desperately needed alternative to the whining pretentiousness of bands like Creed and Coldplay, who appear to have forgotten that sometimes people just want to rock and roll all night and party every day. Overall, Here Come the Brides is a satisfying throwback album that brings back the Sunset Strip glory days. The subsequent fallings out, lineup changes, tour cancellations, etc. all highlight the band's appetite for destruction (so to speak), but fans of Motley Crue, L.A. Guns, and that whole scene will find plenty to enjoy about this album.
