This collection of essays, poems, plays, even cartoons encompasses both very personal and emotional stories about relationships as well as political and cultural commentary on gay marriage. I was completely engrossed in every story because the writing is superb and the stories are so genuine and heartfelt. I especially enjoyed reading about the two authors and their very different experiences. The book covers gay marriage from all angles, even those lesbians who choose not to marry. I appreciated that this book doesn't shy away from revealing marriage as a very complex issue for both gay and straight people. I honestly couldn't put it down which sort of surprised me. Mostly because one expects a collection like this to be rather strident in it's portrayal of lesbian marriage. Many might think this is just a book supporting gay marriage but it's a lot more than that. It is full of personal and political dramas that are never black or white. Highly recommend it!

i brought quite a few beach books to the sand for my vacation. believe it or not, this was the one that I ended up laughing at the most or pondering or interrupting others beach reverie over. the compilation is wide ranging and not all ga ga. in fact one gal couple just bags the idea of marriage half way through their planning time. in a culture that doesn't support 100 ways to marry your lover when gay, this was interesting and had a wide rage of socio economic and cultural gazes upon this institution. grab it. it aint cosmopolitan gets you married. it aint the guys do it. this is all for the women. if you are a homophobe grab it also because the stories of love intertwined are also tender. good find.

Who doesn't love to read about weddings? Well, there may be some people, but I am not one of them. This nonfiction collection of wedding stories of women in love, out of love, married, divorced, is a reminder of the diversity of human experience and the power of love and hope. Some of the stories are funny, some sad, but the spirit of the women shines through in each. Now that same sex marriage is legal in more and more states, many people will be invited to lesbian weddings (I got to plan one as mother of a bride!), and this volume will help them immensely. It certainly exposed me to ideas and perspectives that I had not considered.

This book is a great compilation of interesting writings on the lesbina issues. I could not imagine there were so many! Therefore I can definitely suggest the book as a very comprehensive look on different problems and development of lesbian rights in USA. At the same time, it's a very exciting book that tells the issues from personal viewpoints of concrete people.
