Dont be fooled,
This review is from: Here Comes Lucky (Audio CD)
I made the mistake of buying this album off of the two great reviews. If you're looking for a great band like The Tossers, Flogging Molly, The Korrs, whatever, this isn't the one. Most of it sounds like that horrible early nineties alternarock, the Gin Blossoms come to mind. It's painfully generic in it's sound and lyrics. Infact, the lyrics sound like they were written by a goofy high school kid a couple of days before the battle of the bands. The "Irish" sound that I usually love often comes out sounding more cajun than celtic. I almost threw this cd out of my car window on first listen. If this album is going to be sold under "Irish rock" it should be sold next to the Proclaimers and 500 miles from any good band like Blood or Whiskey and Flogging Molly.

The best Celt-O-Punk CD EVER!!,

This review is from: Here Comes Lucky (Audio CD)
"Here comes Lucky" is the best Celt-O-Punk CD EVER!!! Greater the Flogging Mollys, "Swagger" and even the Pogues, "If I should..", the perfect mix of the Replacements and the Pogues. And no I'm not in the band, related to'em or even Canadian and yes I do know what I'm talking about.

They're Back To What They Do Best,
By Chris Brauer (Creston BC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Here Comes Lucky (Audio CD)
I remember one time coming out of a Mahones concert when the rain was beginning to fall and having it steam off my body because I had been bouncing up and down to the music all night. The Mahones are one of the few bands that make me dance. Their mix of Celtic and punk music are perfect for the hard-core Guinness-drinking fan. On this album, thier latest, the Mahones return to the sound they had on their first two albums, and somewhat lost on their third. "Here Comes Lucky" shows the boys growing up but not old. There are songs about marriage, and lovely ladies, as well as the expected songs about drinking. This album is good as an introduction to the band, as well as a nice surprise to fans. If you're into The Waterboys, The Pogues, The Paperboys, Dervish, Leahy, or other Celtic music, this is a must.
