3.0 out of 5 stars Artists not Unknown, July 6, 2004
By
MEK (city boy) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Here Comes The Sun: A Reggae Tribute To The Beatles (Audio CD)
To Ben Thomas (who reviewed this earlier) and anyone else thinking about buying this. The artists on this compilation are not unknown at all. Some may be obscure, but there are others such as the great Toots & the Maytals, fantastic singer Edi Fitzroy, and worthy UK contenders Steel Pulse. If you do not recognize these names then you do need to brush up on your reggae knowledge. By all means, do check out Peter Tosh but don't let your musical education in regard to reggae end there. I think the bulk of this CD was recorded during the 80s which wasn't the era that most people are familiar with (that would be the original roots material of the late 60s and through the 70s) so don't come to this CD expecting soulful Marley type singing. It's a Beatles cover CD - it's pretty commerical stuff. If you're expecting something more you're fooling yourself.

1.0 out of 5 stars Seek (further) and you shall find ... a good reggae tribute, August 22, 2005

This review is from: Here Comes The Sun: A Reggae Tribute To The Beatles (Audio CD)
I bought this CD with high expectations being a lover of both reggae and the Beatles. It has mediocre renditions at best. If you would like an excellent reggae tribute CD seek out Reggae Celebrates the Grateful Dead Vol 1. It is not that easy to find but is well worth the effort. Vol 2 is easier to find although not quite as good as Vol 1. But either one is still better than this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every song better than the one before!, April 27, 2003

I bought this album because it sounded like such a great idea, and it is! I never even liked "Hey Jude", but after I heard what Toots and the Maytals did to it, I loved it! My daugter really loved "Let It Be" and she kept listing to it over and over! I really recommend this to anyone who loves The Beatles or reggae. And if you enjoy both, this is a must have!
