Artists not Unknown,
By MEK (city boy) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Here Comes The Sun: A Reggae Tribute To The Beatles (Audio CD)
To Ben Thomas (who reviewed this earlier) and anyone else thinking about buying this. The artists on this compilation are not unknown at all. Some may be obscure, but there are others such as the great Toots & the Maytals, fantastic singer Edi Fitzroy, and worthy UK contenders Steel Pulse. If you do not recognize these names then you do need to brush up on your reggae knowledge. By all means, do check out Peter Tosh but don't let your musical education in regard to reggae end there. I think the bulk of this CD was recorded during the 80s which wasn't the era that most people are familiar with (that would be the original roots material of the late 60s and through the 70s) so don't come to this CD expecting soulful Marley type singing. It's a Beatles cover CD - it's pretty commerical stuff. If you're expecting something more you're fooling yourself.

Seek (further) and you shall find ... a good reggae tribute,

I bought this CD with high expectations being a lover of both reggae and the Beatles. It has mediocre renditions at best. If you would like an excellent reggae tribute CD seek out Reggae Celebrates the Grateful Dead Vol 1. It is not that easy to find but is well worth the effort. Vol 2 is easier to find although not quite as good as Vol 1. But either one is still better than this CD.

I bought this album because it sounded like such a great idea, and it is! I never even liked "Hey Jude", but after I heard what Toots and the Maytals did to it, I loved it! My daugter really loved "Let It Be" and she kept listing to it over and over! I really recommend this to anyone who loves The Beatles or reggae. And if you enjoy both, this is a must have!

First. The production sounds terrible. Second. The music sounds even worse. It has a very slick production sound that lends itself to bubble gum sort of music. Not Reggae. I thought it was a joke at first but it is not. We resold it after we bought it.

This CD gives listeners such a great and unique way to listen to the Beatles! And the more of a Beatles fan you are, the more the CD will appeal to you. The whole concept is just so neat! The bands on the CD are great.

again producer Henry K's formula, takes reggae and rock fans on a musical journey that uplifts and entertains. few modern roots reggae projects have been successful at doing this. most compilations have a few good songs this as weel as the entire "reggae rocks series" are loaded with hits.

WASTE OF MONEY TOO,
By Ben Thomas (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews

This cd should be called "Stay apart". Unknown artists singing forgettable music by a great group. I got this cd with the rest of the series and all I can say is THIS CD IS BORING! Save your money. There are so many good Cdz on the market. Check out Peter Tosh or something good. The production is tinny also. Reminds me of a cheap car radio.
