This is where it all started,

All right all you trance and electronica people....if you really want to find out where the genre started, buy this CD. Giorgio Moroder almost single handedly introduced the world to disco/dance into the electronic age with this ground breaking masterpiece. Yes it has some dated elements, but these are overshadowed by the use of electronics as a viable and legit means of producing hypnotic dance music. As the liner notes state: Only electronic intstruments were used in this recording..this was an understatement. The medley on the B side shows Moroder at his seminal best away from headliners like Donna Summer (although Ms Summer remains as his best vocalist). What more can I say...GET THIS CD...take advantage of Amazons offer and get this along with E=MC2, the next visonary work from the legendary Giorgio Moroder....Keep dancin!!

EURODISCO MASTERPIECE: EARLY TRANCE,
By
This review is from: From Here to Eternity (Audio CD)
This is archetypical electrodisco from the European school as represented by Giorgio, Munich Machine and Cerrone: hypnotic, mesmerising beats creating a magical vibe as the tracks segue seamlessly into each other. The best ones are the title track and its reprise, First Hand Experience ... and I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone - prime examples of early trance music. Just shows you wat can be achieved by synthesizers, a drum machine and disembodied voices - all blended together with expertise to create not only a dancefloor killer but also an addictive listening experience.

It is a groundbreaking album from Giorgio, "The Godfather" of electronic disco. A "must have" in your collection if you still remember the 70's.

Back in the late 70's there was this thing called LP's. They were like today's 12" singles , but they had different songs on them. They could only hold about 35 minutes of music. Also, recording technology wasn't was it is today. When you release an album from the 70's on CD in it's original format, it will seem short compared to today's 70 to 80 minutes of music on a single CD (usually filled with throw-away filler). Back in the 70's, music producers were not fixated with blasting the world with bass. The music to today's ears doesn't sound loud. With that in mind, if you weren't old enough to hear this music in the 70's, this will not sound right to you. But, you have to listen to this with the history in mind. Moroder was THE pioneer in electronic pop music. His groundbreaking work on Donna Summer's 1977 "I Feel Love" was the first time a song without "real" instruments hit the Top 40. Moroder's work then paved the way for the 80's synth pop revolution.

Moroder's a hero! A true visionary man that created (among so many others...) Donna Summer's "Bad Girls", one of my all time fave albums.
This one is as essential for a disco fan, as some Velvet Underground record is to a rock fan. Do I need to say more???

Electronic Music History,
This review is from: From Here to Eternity (Audio CD)
Anyone who could ever consider themself a fan of electronic music, be it the Neptunes or Aphex Twin, must hear this album. It is simply awesome. Moroder paved the way for techno music fully solidifying the idea that music can be made with synths, and later on, computers. The songs still retain that disco soul, that can often be lacking in a lot electronic music and pop today. This is really the perfect balance of old school disco beats and astonishingly modern sounding electronica. A definite must have.

From here to Eternity(all tracks) is "La creme de la creme" of the early techno disco sound created by no other than Giorgio Moroder.Infectious sounds and crystal danceable rhythms. It's Moroder's disco era masterpiece, with the exception of Midnight Express soundtrack.I highly recommend this sensational album to those who really love electronic/techno music. It's an hypnotic musical experience.

The Velvet Underground reference one reviewer made is the key. Giorgio Moroder is as influential as any band. Like the VU album, it may not have stormed the charts but most who heard the Moroder sound took something from it. In 1977 no-one had heard of seemless dance mixes on albums, pulsating sequencers, spacy atmospheric synths, metronomic electronic rhythms. Everyone can see the link to house and trance music (you could subtitle this album "Modern Dance Music Began Here"), but as someone much more into guitar bands Moroder had an equally huge influence on alternative and pop bands. Any band old and new who wanted to add a dance edge, hard rhythm or icy electronics to their sound looked no further (artists as diverse as Abba, ELO, Goldfrapp, New Order, NIN, Eurhythmics, YYYs, Killing Joke). Also Moroder definitely influenced Kraftwerk. Their next album "Man Machine" has some very Moroder sounding tracks like "The Robots" and "Spacelab".
The only slightly dated stuff is the vocals, but they generally gel fine in a sort of late 70s way. The music is timeless. |
