Niceness Counts,
By
This review is from: Here (Audio CD)
This is one of the nicest c.d.'s that I've heard in quite awhile. And contrary to the old saying, niceness counts for something.
Although you'll find it in the jazz section of the c.d. part of the store, it really sounds more like a pop album. Except for "Eye of the Tiger", which is constructed on a jazzy 6/8 riff, this album reminds me a lot of Elton John's first album (the one with "Your Song" and "Take Me to the Pilot"). Three cuts stand out: The aforementioned "Tiger"; "Worship," with some gorgeous orchestral harmonies and vocal harmonies supplied by Tony Bennett's buddy, k.d. lang; and the highlight, or the bonus track, "I'll Watch You (While You're Sleeping)". The latter cut is a precious lullaby that a parent would sing to his/her sleeping infant, complete with the artist's "Ahh!" exclamation of satisfaction at cut's end. A most satisfying end to this album, indeed. As for Ms. Owen, she has a very nice singing voice, particularly in her lower register. I wish she didn't breathe so much, thereby interrupting the lyric lines; but since she wrote most of these songs, I guess she can interrupt them whenever she bloody well wants to! In many ways, this c.d. reminds me of one of my favorites of this year, also a jazz-pop album, Erin Bode's "Over and Over." The first time I heard that one, I liked it; the second time, really liked it; the third time, loved it; and the fourth time, loved it even more. I've finished two listens to this. I'm not yet to the point of twisting anyone's arm to buy this c.d.; but give me time. I may get there yet. RC

Wonderful,

Judith was on Mountain Stage in Morgantown, WV on Sept. 10, 2006. She was absolutely wonderful. "Here" and "Eye of the Tiger" were instant hits with the audience. Her non-produced performance was refreshing. I highly recommend her CD.

wonderful voice of Judith Owen suggested by the Today show host- Al Roker. I have had this tape for several years and have yet to grow tired of the mellowness and wonderful velvet tone of her voice. Enjoy

What a REVELATION!,

I came across the name "Judith Owen" while visiting the website of Julia Fordham, a favorite vocalist of mine.
Intrigued, I decided to order two of Ms. Owen's CD's on-line, cheaply priced! And I am SO thankful I did! In all my years of web-shopping, I've never felt compelled to write an on-line review. But the beauty and genius of Ms. Owen warrants my meager raves! While it's true that one might compare Ms. Owen's work with other artists... and likewise true that we're all tempted to "pigeon-hole" all artists... SET THOSE HABITS ASIDE, I say, and just EXPERIENCE this album! Front to back... It's just stunning! AND it really sticks with you... in a haunting, wondrous way! Honestly: Give yourself the gift of this musical montage...
