Disappointing Live Versions,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Here in My Car (Audio CD)
Buyer Beware! If you are looking for a collection of Gary Numan's best "studio" recordings - this one is not it! Nowhere are we, the consumers, informed that this CD is comprised mostly of live recordings. We don't know this until we put the CD in the player and read the liner notes. The partial title of the CD ("Best Of") is very misleading. As noted earlier, the buyers should be informed we are not getting the original studio recordings. It is not that these live recordings are bad but they certainly can not compare to the studio versions. Some musical styles truly work better in the studio where they can be produced properly - such is the case with Gary Numan music. "Cars," for example, loses it's energy without the help of studio production. The song would have never been a hit had listeners first heard this live version. Also irritating is the audience. Some live recordings are enchanced by the audience participation. This is not the case here with this supposed "best of" compilation. My major complaint is that the consumer does not know these are live recordings until he or she actually plays the CD or reads the liner notes buried in fine print in the booklet. Shame on Cleopatra records for being so misleading!
