5 stars,
By AK "Bro" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Here She Lies (Paperback)
Annie Milliken's world begins to fall apart when she discovers that her husband has been unfaithful. Over his protestations of innocence, she leaves him, seeking shelter with her twin sister, Julie. Things continue to go downhill; a woman who bears a resemblance to the sisters is killed, Annie is arrested for grand larceny, Julie vanishes, taking Annie's baby with her, and Annie is charged with murder. Someone is trying to destroy Annie, but who? And why?
***** If you love Alfred Hitchcock classic mysteries, then do not hesitate to buy this book. Just when you think you know what is going on, a new twist springs a fresh revelation on you. Not until the very last page do the shocks end. This is a fascinating read, plain and simple. ***** Amanda Killgore, Freelance Reviewer

A Little Disturbing...,
This review is from: Here She Lies (Paperback)
So once I got halfway through Here She Lies, I was convinced I knew the ending. Absolutely convinced. I was definitely wrong. What a twist! Anyway, this is a pretty disturbing tale about twin sisters and identity theft. Definitely will make you paranoid for a few nights, but it's an excellent read.

A great thriller,
This review is from: Here She Lies (Paperback)
Annie has been married to Bobby for less than a year but they and their baby daughter were a very happy family until an e-mail leads Annie to believe Bobby is having an affair. He vehemently denies it insisting he doesn't know anyone who signs their email lovylove addressed to bobbybobs. Yet the contents of the notes are very erotic and exact going so far to describe the marks on his body only a wife or mother would know.
Even when they get new credit cards and destroyed the old, unexplained charges occur with things one would give to a lover appearing on the bill. After two months Annie walks out on the marriage and takes their daughter to her identical sister's house; She knows Julie will love and support them through this trying time. When Anne goes to keep an appointment for a job, she is arrested on embezzlement charges. Bobby put up the house for collateral and Annie makes bond but when they return to Julie's home neither her sister or child are there. Besides identity theft, Anna now has to deal with a kidnapping with her frantic thoughts taking her down a horrific path that she is afraid to give any credence. Besides being a great thriller, HERE SHE LIES gives readers an incredible look at the consequences of identity theft and how it impacts the victims. Annie's love for her sterile twin is so strong and so deep that thinking bad thoughts about her sibling feels like a betrayal of the person she loves most next to her daughter. Bobby is a great character willing to be dominated by a stronger woman. Kate Pepper rolls up the tension in this cleverly written suspense laden urban crime thriller. Harriet Klausner

Too much, yet not enough,

This review is from: Here She Lies (Paperback)
I really wanted to like this book and stuck with it the whole way through, mostly because I knew what the outcome was going to be, and I really do like giving books a chance to get better or add a twist that I didn't see coming. But I found myself skipping over 2-3 pages of nothing but details about stuff that didn't matter at all. The biggest issue I had, was the constant detail about breastfeeding. I'm not anti-nursing as I'm a nursing mother myself, but the way it was written into the story, a detail that kept coming up over and over again, was just not necessary.

Boring and Predictable,
By
This review is from: Here She Lies (Kindle Edition)
As a rule, I always download a sample before I purchase a book and this title was no exception. This book started out ok with likable characters, however, became so bogged down with insignificant boring details. Of note, there are at least 42 references of the main character Annie and her breast feeding routines with her only child Lexy. Please, who cares? I bought this book to read a crime novel and instead I'm reading about breast pumping and feeding schedules. The book itself is narrated by the main character Annie and is too one dimensional to keep my interest. Annie thinks Bobby (her husband) is having an affair, based on CC bills and emails he is receiving from his lover. However, before Bobby can jump into action, Annie has to leave him first. He has been confronted numerous times about this, but does nothing about it? I don't know about you, but if my spouse came to me about erroneous CC bills and lover emails, I'd be all over that. Sorry, I would not recommend this book, even for only 0.99.

This was my first Kate Pepper book. I loved it! I was saddened by the ending but that's life. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting a page turner. I will read the next 3 Pepper books as soon as possible.
Keep them coming Kate!

Very disappointing,
By
This review is from: Here She Lies (Paperback)
Contrary to the reveiws that have already been written, I was very disappointed by this book. From the early chapters, it was obvious what the plot was, who the "bad" guy(s) were, and what the outcome was. It felt to me like the author took pieces (plots) from 3 or 4 other books and tried to combine them to make an original - and it failed badly in my opinion. The only reason I finished the book was that I was trying to give the author a chance to suprise me - it never happened!
