Severe drum & bass,
By Arthur F. Eisele (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) - See all my reviews
This review is from: From Here to There (Audio CD)
A great compilation of clean, minimalist, and hard drum & bass. The mixing is so good you don't notice song changes. Do not be scared by people talking about "minimalist d&b", it doesn't equate to soft. This CD has some of the hardest beats and basslines I've ever heard. In top of being hard, the tracks are all melodic, so you won't get bored. Sometimes, in between rough parts, you hear beautiful vocals and trancy sounds, but then it returns to roughness. Tracks 11-12 are straightout classics. Forget Aphrodite and all that hiphop-d&b music looking to the past, get with the d&b of the future, buy DJ Dara's "From Here to There".

Better than words,

Absolutely no weak tracks on this cd, and I've listened to track-12 probably 117 times already. Most of the cd is just really really good jungle/Drum&Bass, but I can't get enough of track 12 because he throughs in this amazing vocal track that has all the beauty/sensuality of portishead, except its over the most amazing low rolling bass line i've ever heard. I've also heard this track twice out at clubs. For good reason too. Buy this cd.

TOTALLY WICKED!!!!!!!,

Alright everbody, this one is definately a keeper. This project has to be Dara's best to date, although Future Perfect and Further were good as well. On this cd Dara socks it to you hard, fierce, dark, and fast. All the tracks on this cd are very good, and Dara's mixes are simply flawless and very well thought out. The climax though is the mixover from Blue Sonix "Devil Inside" into Kenny Ken's "Project one". All drum&bass lover's should have this cd in their collection. Dara's definately rinsin' up ya face with this one y'all!

This CD came out around the same time as Dieselboy's "System Upgrade," and the combination made me a very happy individual for quite some time. Still seeing regular time in my CD player, it is one of my favorite d&b mixes of all time. As track selection goes, I personally prefer the dieselboy, but I think Dara grabs it here with the progression, hence the title. I can't think of a single mix on here that sounds illogical or "forced" to me, and the album as a whole changes gears many, many times from front to back. The creativity shown in how certain mixes are actually contrived still strikes me as brilliant, two or three years after the disc's release. Overall, my favorite mix by Dara, slightly edging out full circle, and a great example of what separates the big boys from the rest of us who can match beats and wiggle a fader.

From the airy intro of "Crazy" from L Double and Serena to the frantic, hellbent pace of Future Cut's "Whiplash" and back, this disc's got some of the hardest, sleekest sounds out right now. Other highlights include the stomach-trembling cut "The Big 3-oh" by DJ Hype, the brutal, all-out pounder "Menace" by Biostacis, and the silky, jumping sounds of Cyba Space and Shanie on "I Bless the Day". But even with that, there's still more. There is a showing from Usual Suspects in "Doorway", and it's seamless mix into what is easily becoming a top mover-and-shaker: Blue Sonix' "Devil Inside", including a killer vocal over some wild rolling breaks and madness-inducing bass. To end on a smooth note, Dara brings in John B. with "Progress" and flows into Fallen Angels' "Rapier". From a top name like Dara, this disc is exactly what we count on him for. Plenty of hard beats, but executed with flair and grace. This is possibly one of the best discs you'll find in wide release. Make sure you twist the knob all the way to eleven with this one!

SUPERB DnB,
By "handyandy1" (Columbia, MO United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: From Here to There (Audio CD)
I have been trying to wear this disc out sice I bought it. Its hard to find a full DnB CD as consistent and hard-hitting as this. No weak songs. Very upbeat serious, dancy, beats without bieng too dark. Musical, jazzy, groovin tunes from start to finish. One the best ever drum and base LP's, period. Dara has a drum and base style all his own, and this album is full of this unique character. He rips through these tracks at over 180 BPM, with a selection including a few of the years greatest plates. But what makes the album great are the obscure tracks (Profound Noise, Blue Sonix, Nenny Ken). DJ Dara, formerly the top record buying agent for Breakbeat Science, the first drum and base store outside of the UK, launched his career with this LP. Care to find out why?

this is arguably Dara's best work to date. this album was perfect (no pun intended with future perfect lol) it was minimal the bass lines were pure not synthesized it was pure cello or bass being plucked ugh "whiplash" was poetic granted yes it was originally done by future perfect but he ugh premo remix. I've had this album stolen every time I've bought it (6 times)and you can't download it anywhere (I've looked). i will continue to buy this till everyone has a copy of it.

I downloaded Dara in the first place because he's part of Planet Of The Drums, who Dieselboy got me into. This is the only CD I have by Dara, and compared to Dieselboy's music it is slightly more... happy, for a lack of better words. The beats aren't as hard and driving as Dieselboy's new stuff, which is what I like about him, but they're still cool and Dara can definitely mix.
