I Like It...,
This review is from: Here, There, and Everywhere: The 100 Best Beatles Songs (Hardcover)
Picked this up as an impulse buy...a hardback Beatles' book at a very reasonable price? Why not. Once home, I got into it. Very neat, easy to read/use, & very entertaining. Each of the 100 songs receives 3-4 pages of commentary. Each tune gets both authors' "What We Really Like About This Song" + "What This Song Is About" + "Did You Know?" + some factual info regarding the recording session & who played what instrument.
Not as heavy as Mark Lewisohn's "The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions"...Spignesi & Lewis' book is more about fun. IMO, a worthy addition to any collector of Beatles' books(I have about 20)...would definitely be a great first book for anyone wanting to read about the songs they've listened to & loved all these years.

Fabulous and Informative,

Being such an avid fan of the Beatles, I thought I knew everything there was to know about them and their music. Not true! The authors did an amazing job. First, to narrow it down, by polling REAL fans, then, to research each song so thoroughly. They tell us the origin of each song...and many details that I, and many others, were undoubtedly unaware of. This is a well written, unique book about the "Fab 4". The photo's are wonderful as well. Do not miss this book! It truely is the best one yet! A personal recommandation...listen to the song, then read about how it "came to be". Kaitlyn

Sure it's subjective, but it's fun to see what two other Beatle fans consider to be the best songs and what their arguments are. Certainly gets your juices flowing when Don't let me down makes the cut but Tell me why and Yellow Submarine don't!
Reads easily and great fun for any Beatle fan.

Rating Some Memorable Beatles Music!,
By
This review is from: Here, There, and Everywhere: The 100 Best Beatles Songs (Hardcover)
Anyone daring to rate the "music of the Gods" is setting themselves up for a pasting. Authors Stephen Spignesi and Michael Lewis dared the unthinkable and the results are contained in this interesting book on the "100 Best Beatles Songs."
After an introduction on how they arrived at the top 100 - songwriting, musicianship, production, lyrics - Spignesi and Lewis take us song-by-song through their ranking. Number #1 is "A Day in the Life;" #100, "Helter Skelter." Coverage of each song includes what the song is about, why it made the top 100, interesting facts about the song, what the authors most liked about the song, etc. So, did all my Beatle favorites make the list? No! Am I cheesed off about the rankings? Not especially! Are some of their statements about what a particular song means pretty obvious or reaching for it? Yup! But so what!?! The authors wrote the book and they're entitled to their opinion. I enjoyed this book. It takes you down a musical road of wonderful songs - lovely ballads, hard rockers and psychedelic head-trips - that enriched our lives. Reading this book is a fun experience.

Great Insight but....,

The idea of this book is great. A detailed description, with a little commentary, gives you more insight into a song than you ever thought possible. And obviously everyone's best of list is going to be different. But I would like to see a little more diversity. I mean, Yesterday is a great song and all, but their hits have been talked about and written about for thirty years. I would like to know more about lesser known songs because some of them are a lot more interesting than Yesterday. But for what's it worth, a detailed description about the recording process gives loads more insight than any schmoe's supposed firsthand account about the Beatles fighting. Yeah, we know they fought. La de da.

A decent entertaining book,
This review is from: Here, There, and Everywhere: The 100 Best Beatles Songs (Hardcover)
Please do not read the one star reviews. They are not legitimate and appear to be from one disgruntled Beatles fan.
This is a decent book for Beatles fans. Although it does not contain all of their songs, it's interesting to see how two writers list their favorites. The most entertaining parts of the book are the "did you know" sections and the timeline of the recording process. Maybe not as thorough and informative of a book as Revolution in the Head, however, much more user friendly.

Don't listen to the completely moronic reviews posted here. This is a great book. The authors have done an excellent job researching, providing insight and giving great technical information about each track. There seems to be a lot of crybabying about certain tracks being left out, certain tracks being listed over others--who the hell cares, it's the f'n Beatles, for crying out loud, every song is great, from Yesterday to A Day in the Life, to Revolution #9. This is a book that the casual listener and the rabid fan will love.

If you are really into the Beatles, or are a musician or songwriter, this book is a must-have; it gives details you will not find out anywhere else. It gives insight on the sometimes surprising way in which songs are written, distributed, accidentally created, and/or manipulated by media & others. Fascinating!
