5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Find, March 19, 2007
By
Some of the songs on this album can certainly be compared to Grandaddy or Sparklehorse ("Time to Forgive the Winter" even sounds like The Dismemberment Plan), but the diversity of sounds is what sets Girls in Hawaii apart from other indie pop/rock bands. I think they'll have to eventually make a sound of their own, but as a debut LP, this album proves that the band is capable of pulling off a lot. I agree with the previous review that states the album has no "throw-away" songs. My only regret is not getting it four years ago when it was originally released.

It's simply one of the most beautiful album of Pop rock!

After Ghinzu, Girls in Hawaii is an another evidence that the belgium rock is very famous !!

Nothing is to be thrown in this album, all the songs are good.

3.0 out of 5 stars News from Belgium, August 8, 2004
This review is from: From Here to There (Audio CD)
Deus was (and still is) one of the most underrated bands of the last ten years. Maybe the world will wake up to them one day, the same way this world does for the Pixies now. Everybody seems to be into it now and I never knew they were that popular...
A lot of good musicians became popular after their death or when their band split up (Drake, Doors, Pixies, Love...)
Girls in Hawaii's influences are obvious (Deus, Grandaddy). If they were American, they would be on the Sub Pop label. There are some very interesting tracks on this album (Short song for a short mind, Fontanelle, Bees and Butterflies, Catwalk), but what GIH lack is a clear identity, a sound of their own. Please don't get me wrong, this album is good but not as good and fresh as Deus' first album "Worst Case Scenario". Why comparing ? Because it is really hard not to. Close your eyes and this is an album of Deus rarities, B sides. So yes, this album is as good as that, go and BUY IT NOW! So should you check the latest Beastie boys, Bees, Modest mouse (most amazing band), the Datsuns, Wilco, Snow patrol (you probably did already). GIH will have to free themselves from their early influences to offer something unique and personal in order to enter that very small club, the club of bands which matter in the world of music. I think they can.
