I purchased this book for genealogy reasons. Surnames of ancestors that I am researching in Caldwell County appear in the Appendix of this book. However, if I had no ancestors in this book it would be a fascinating read of the history of Caldwell County and also the history of those who went before us to settle this country. There are stories of the first settlers, the Native Americans, who struggled to hang on to their land. Then came the hardy Scotch-Irish and Germans struggling to forge a new life. These groups joined to fight in the Revolutionary War. The book then covers the growth of Caldwell County post war and the people who lived and worked there. This is a great book.
