5.0 out of 5 stars Still ahead of its time
As a fan of Josh's minimal house anthems, I purchsed Hearhear when it first came out in 98. At first I was amazed the variety of geners on display: breakbeat, atmospheric drum and base, ambient and of course, classic Josh Wink house. This album is hard edged like steele and challeges the listner. This is not an easy album, its not a trance trip or an IDM head game...

1.0 out of 5 stars Drum machine run amuck!
This disk is not indicative of Josh Wink's later, and more developed, work. If you want to hear him at a much higher level, check out Profound Sounds Vol. 1 and the supremely enjoyable and detailed Profound Sound Vol. 2, which I think is his best studio work. Prof.Sound Vol. 3 is okay, but not as good as Vol. 1 and definately inferior to Vol. 2.

This album is hard edged like steele and challeges the listner. This is not an easy album, its not a trance trip or an IDM head game. Its just one of the best, doing what he does best. On another note, don't use this to judge all that Josh is capable of. To see him live is to drfit through deep goovy house, slip through some jungle and get pounced by minimalist house. He is one of the best DJ's, period. And one of the nicest guys in the industry. To this day (four years after its release) This album is still a year or two ahead of its time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better in person., May 30, 1999

Its a good record. I just bought the LP, but to see him spin at a rave truly defines josh wink. This record is good b/c it pumps out many different styles from drum n bass acid jazz, to techno, to dark trip-hop, you wont soon become too bored. but he's better in person.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wink as always delivers great beats and this time gives more, November 30, 1998

Simply the best beat master. Josh Wink's first album delivers more than just a single or two. It's a complete experience. And he's gotten some great vocals to fill in his wonderful rhythms. I think the "i'm on fire" vocals by Caroline Crawley is a stand out track. A must for any Wink fan...definitely worth a listen for the rest of you.

"Hearhear" sounds like he was experimenting with what a drum machine can do. None of the tracks are innovative, or even interesting. Wink live in clubs is something to behold. You won't forget it, but this cd will leave you wondering what all the attention is about. Borrow from a friend.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums in the genre... ever., July 25, 2002
This review is from: Herehear (Audio CD)
Despite the fact this album isn't as easy to approach as other artists, it is just another example of how brilliant Wink really is. You can come upon this album from several angles, whether you were a Nine Inch Nails fan and wanted something a little less dark, or a Paul Oakenfold fan and wanted something a little harder and a lttle less "fruity", either way... this album is one nutty ride that can't really be compared to anything else. Rather than a DJ slapping together song after song, all running at some BPM around 140... this album truly gives you a variety of songs that can literally change your moods drastically from track to track. Not better or worse than Left above the Clouds... just a different ride.

1.0 out of 5 stars enormous disappointment, May 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Herehear (Audio CD)
this album reeked of josh trying to live up to his reputation...it's a tidy little collection of ditty-bop techno tunes without heart - except maybe "sixth sense." the appearance of trent reznor is gratuitous at best, and frankly, it sounds to me like josh got shoved out of the studio when trent was ushered in. i had high hopes for this album, especially considering the quality of everything else ovum's put out so far, and all the times i've seen josh's sets live. better luck with the sophomore effort.

4.0 out of 5 stars Oh this is good, But not Wink's best., March 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Herehear (Audio CD)
I've heard Josh Wink spin at so many raves, I can't remember how many times I've seen him. Each time I remember him getting better and better. While this ablum is one of the best "techno" CD's to come out in a while, I've heard him do better, but not by much. Personal vote for tracks two and five for hard hittin beats...

3.0 out of 5 stars Wink, you've come a long way, baby., November 25, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Herehear (Audio CD)
Well you can never miss Josh Wink in a croud with his bleached blond dreds and devilsh grin. You all have heard Winks "Higher state of conscious" making magic on the dance floor, now get ready for his first solo work! If you stay up late sometimes you can catch Winks "Simple Man" video on MTV's AMP. Wink is the only one who can get away with trashing on the dance scene, for his video depics a awia CD player as the star of this concert, and the video follows the life of this CD player with Wink as its manager. Anyway this album features alot of talent, but some songs lack the Wink we used to know. All in all try it. You might like it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Yummy and Satisfying, July 13, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Herehear (Audio CD)
How techno-tranced out can one get? Well, listening to Wink's "HereHear" will answer any curiosity you may have in regards to this question. The overlay of keyboards, sounds, and beats can hijack any listener's listening pleasure to an unsurpassed level into the musical mind of Wink. Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails makes a vocal appearance on the track, "Black Bomb (Jerry in the Bag)", while Ursula Rucker soothingly delights you with her vocals on the track ,"Sixth Sense." Spaced out and trippy, yet yummy and satisfying.

2.0 out of 5 stars Go with the beat or else..., October 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Herehear (Audio CD)
This is not a particularly well-crafted work. There is precious little variety in rhythms and almost no melody to speak of. If that crazy beating rave scene is your cup of tea, you might do OK. Those looking for a challenging collection of electronic music could do much better. Beeps and bass sounds are often so similar that it can seem not only like the tracks were made on the same keyboard but also on the same settings. Reznor adds trademark dissonance but helps only marginally. "Sixth Sense" is the worst "techno" song I have ever heard.
