This recording combines a lounge sound with a catchy groove. The lyrics are funny and inspired. this is a welcome departure from the typical pop sound of today! retro and modern!

I remember seeing the Love Jones open up for the Afghan Whigs back in 94 at one of the local dives. I can't remember what song they opened with but I remember that I was in heaven. Then, they finished their set with a disco cover of Tool's Sober. I was in love.

The lights are low, the martinis are cold, and you can not help but give in to the inevitable....its the Love Jones. This custom-polyester-suit clad fivesome blazed forth for a supernova burst.....blasting a hole into the grunge-laden early 90s to re-claim the late-night mantle for lounge. Not just the sound, but the entire concept.Their debut is a masterpiece of musicianship, humor, intelligence, and cool. From the opening sway of "Here's To The Losers" to the closing glide of "Dancing In The Shallow End", this album throws back the double shot of Stoli, grabs the girl, owns the dancefloor, and "retires" back to it's pad for some serious r & r. While much attitude and humor is essential to any lounge disc, the Love Jones also have the musical chops to hang with the heavies. Destined to be a little known, but passionately loved, gem of the discount bin, pick this up. As a former record store employee snob, I can vouch for the exceptional effort it takes to impress a record retail staff. These guys though, had everyone in our store, from the flannelest grunge burnout to the most cynical power pop junkie, under their spell....

This is the kind of music that makes you want to let your hair down and go for a ride! The carefree, party-provoking lyrics will remind you of the good old days. So go ahead. Put the windows down, and enjoy!

I heard this CD about 3 years ago for the first time, and last evening I got in my brand new car and popped it in the disc player as I left the dealership, and it's still one of my absolute favorite discs. It's got that great jazzy edge to it with incredibly fun lyrics. I'm amazed that the band isn't more popular.
