5.0 out of 5 stars great story, June 20, 2005
Penny is a lucky little boy. His real name is William but, when he was adopted by his parents they named him Penny because his hair was copper red! Penny is best friends with his neighbor Patsy. They have lots of adventures together in this book. You never know what to expect from them!

The book is full of good old fashion fun. No violence or bad words are found in this book. Kids respect the adults as well.

I would recommend this book to kids who are just starting out with chapter books. The chapters are not too long and not too short

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST introduction to chapter books for boys!, August 28, 2009
We read this book aloud to my little boy, and at 4.5 years old his imagination could relate to every scene. This story is timeless - every little boy can relate to Penny! It's also an easy reader - I give it for six-and seven year old boys for birthday gifts, along with it's sequel, Penny & Peter.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for adoptees, June 27, 2011

I was adopted and raised by an elementary school teacher and a registered nurse. Together they taught me to read and I was digesting books like this when I was in kindergarten. I remember this book fondly because it was the first book I read that had a child character who was adopted. Even then I knew my situation was different, but somehow this story helped me to see adoption as a completely normal everyday thing. And why should it not be so? =) It is a delightful story that is still relevant today. Highly recommend!
