This is one of the best albums I've listened to in 2007. Most of the tracks are catchy, beautiful lyrically, and have a punchy beat. Of note are Love Has Given Up, For Science Fiction, Hours That You Keep, and Guns of Navarone. Maritime's sound on this album evokes a post-punk, post-emo feel that is both mature and naive.

I had never heard of them before listening to material on this album so this is not a biased review in any way. It takes a couple of listens to get into, but it's well worth the effort.

Maritime's third full album possesses several different qualities that the older albums don't deliver: contributions in song-writing from the whole band, rougher vocals including screaming(moreso in concert) and just lesser perfect performnances from Davey(this is a good thing actually), and perhaps more not pin-pointed yet. The production actually is quite solid with depth in songs that embellishes some good lines like in "First Day on Earth" which may be a boring song without the atmospheres and varying prodcutions throughout the song. The song's full of so many instruments and static that helps the tone of the song a lot. "Peril" takes an opposite approach with the barebones production(two guitars with disttortion and vocals), yet succeeds too...it's just a different and excellent job..."Pearl"'s definitely a companaion piece, for it has half of the same lyrics as "Peril". It's blown out to be a pop epic with the huge chorus with backing vocals that only has a "All-oh-oh...All-oh-oh our lives in pearls." Wonderful song live! It was a good idea to keep both of these songs on the album to show the different directions, production and tone could do to change an idea.

Maritime doesn't slack off by not delivering rockers...they're here! And catchy too. "Guns of Navarone", "Hours That We Keep", "Science Fiction" are all as catchy and great as "Tearing up the Oxygen"...almost.

It must be noted that i do have a bias in this review, i am a huge fan of Maritime and have been for quite a few years. So it comes with no surprise that when i found out about this album i was ecstatic. I ran out to buy it as soon as it came out. I must say that the album itself is exceptional. I do like Glass Floor better but i really do enjoy this album quite a bit. if this is your first time listening to Maritime i truly believe that this will be an album that you will enjoy quite a bit as my girlfriend who has never really listened to maritime loved it

I continue to be amazed with each new album Maritime produces. I LOVE this one as much as the last one. Can't get these songs out of my head. Can't say enough about Maritime

"For Science Fiction" was the best song of 2007. An exhilarating blast of musical goodness.

This bands last album had great songs and poor production. This one's the other way round. Fantastic production but rather slick and bland tunes that you can easily listen to whilst doing something else. There are some good tracks but not enough to make it worthwhile. Sorry.
