5.0 out of 5 stars great melodic speed/thrash metal
this is one of those metal albums that isn't very well known, or may sometimes get a bad review somewhere, and i'm not sure why either of those is true. the guitar riffs and leads are some of the best i've ever heard, with drumming and bass work to match. charly steinhauer's voice is also fairly unique i think, and sounds at times like a higher-pitched and more melodic...

3.0 out of 5 stars Old school speed metal, reisued
I'm not really a huge thrash metal fan. Aside from early Metallica and Megadeth, later Anthrax, and a few assorted others (Powermad, Heathen, Anacrusis), I never really got into the speed metal sound. 5.0 out of 5 stars Hard n Heavy, a great release, December 1, 2000

Heresy is by far one of the best releases in a long time representing the metal genre. What seperates this CD from the rest of the hum drum fodder called metal, is the uniqueness of style and subject matter. The musicianship is flawless. Searing guitars in hard-driving pace, thunderous drums, heavy bass, all combined with brilliant vocals send this CD into the stratosphere of power driven metal music. This is a must buy. If I had to compare them to a band, I would say, early raw agressive sound of Savatage (Sirens or Dungeons release).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Euro Thrash, September 9, 2004
This review is from: Heresy (Audio CD)
If you're looking for a little known gem to brag to your mates about look no further.

The vibe on Heresy is electric.

Great duelling guitars, cool thrash vocal. Catchy riffs, melody to match the finest mid-history Metallica and enough ferocity to satisfy the most savage beast.

Standout tracks: Heresy, Search For Perfection.

I'm not really a huge thrash metal fan. Aside from early Metallica and Megadeth, later Anthrax, and a few assorted others (Powermad, Heathen, Anacrusis), I never really got into the speed metal sound. By and large it just seems diametrically opposed to the kind of melodic rock and metal I prefer. I took a chance on German thrashers Paradox though, after running across the Metal Mind reissue of their 1989 album Heresy. Something about the cover art and the sticker's emphasis on power metal compelled me to check it out.

I suppose I can see how this album might cross into power metal territory. The subject matter is your typical fantasy fare, much like Helloween, Omen, and a whole host of early Metal Blade acts were focused on. Aside from the lyrical content, Heresy is very much a straightforward thrash/speed metal album. The lightning riffs and barked vocals bring to mind Metallica's early work and Anthrax's whole Belladonna era. Heresy is super-speedy metal, and the intricate guitar solos are just as impressive as the thrash riffs. Unfortunately there isn't much in the way of melody or powerful vocals, so I'm not finding a lot to love here.

This may not be my favorite kind of metal, but if you love old school thrash and speed metal like early Anthrax, (very) early Helloween, Kill `em All era Metallica, and Vicious Rumors, you'll want to check out Paradox, and the reissues of Heresy and the band's debut Product of Imagination are a great place to start.

NOTE: Metal Mind reissued Heresy in 2007 with digitally remastered audio and a pair of bonus tracks (demo versions of The Burning and Massacre of the Cathars). The reissue comes in a numbered digipack with expanded liner notes, and is limited to 2000 numbered copies. Since the original version is all but impossible to find, this reissue is good news for old school thrash/speed metal fans.

Paradox is an incredible metal band. The lyrics, the riffs,

the vocals, everything is top notch. This is a very intelligent

and technical thrash band. It is also super catchy. You will

be singing this one all day long after you listen to it. Like the

reviewer below said, it is also something to brag to your friends

about.

This album is worth picking up, definately good old school power metal. It's been awhile since I've heard this or actually seen it.

Once you here the first song, the rest are just like it. Speedy album. Lighter guitar sound, mid-high vocals not ear piecing. "Serenity"...on the hill, is all that stands out to me. A bit cheesey, but I kinda like the cover.

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid trash metal but nothing spectacular, May 3, 2006
This review is from: Heresy (Audio CD)
Comparing this album to early-mid metallica is stupid because this album sounds nothing like it. The closest sound to this album and this band would be EXODUS. so if you like Exodus i reccomend you buy this album. Musiclly, they sound ok, have some catchy riffs but their song structure is amature. Once you listen the whole album you will find out that every song sounds the same. There is not even one song that you can sing along i remmember it and as i said before every chorus sounds the same with the same theme and melody.
