Pinetop Perkins is one of the last great Mississippi bluesmen still performing. He began playing blues around 1927, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest blues pianists of all time. He created a style that has influenced three generations of piano players, and will continue to be the yardstick by which great blues pianists are measured.

One of the finer examples of Perkins' ability to coax wonderful boogie stylings from the keyboard, this solo record is a true testament to his artistic craft. This is one of the finest blues releases of 2003 and should be in every blues collector's library.

If you love the blues...especially on piano you can't go wrong with Pinetop Perkins. He is one of the best that ever lived.
Please forgive me for dropping names but I met "Top" when he was in his mid-80s and he was a really down to earth, humble sweetheart of a man. We had a mutual friend and I got to see him play live many many times and he never disappointed. He could play his younger bands under the table and then some. Many nights, by the time the show ended, the rest of the band had joined the audience. This is another CD that brings those nights right back to me years and years later. Pinetop accompanied Muddy Waters for decades and then played with the Legendary Blues Band for years. One of the more memorable shows was seeing him play with his younger protégé, Daryl Davis, an author and regional Washington D.C. pianist. The two of them together simply lit the stage on fire with their interactive performance. When he was in town you never knew who would drop in to play with him. I also really like the reserved playing of the guitarist on this release. I think it was Tony O.
