Book Description

Erik Hildebrandt has outdone even himself by cracking the code of silence of the United States Air Force.  With more than 200 original color images made exclusively for this title, Hildebrandt was afforded unprecedented access to the newly formed USAF Heritage Flight Program This one-of-a-kind program consists of the current military demonstration pilots from the A-10 Warthog, the F-16 Falcon and the F-15 Eagle communities; as a unique twist, these demo teams are paired with one of 12 civilian pilots, each flying a vintage WW II or Korean era fighter.  The author's techniques for capturing these airborne subjects are praised by those in the business as some of the most innovative and creative methods that afford readers a true sense of being in the actual formation flight.

About the Author

Erik Hildebrandt is firmly established as one of the most resourceful and innovative creators of world-class aviation imagery. Far more than simply pictures of planes, Erik’s photographs are an illustrious combination of natural light, atmospheric conditions and of course aircraft. His knowledge of each platform, passion for flight and attention to safety affords Erik the trust and respect of his subject aviators that is critical to capturing such magical moments as this book is comprised of. The images within this volume reflect that trust and are evidence of Erik’s tremendous appreciation for the opportunities to work with such highly skilled pilots.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning photos of exceptional flights, March 27, 2004
This review is from: Heritage Flight: America's Air Force Celebrates 100 Years of Aviation (Hardcover)
Photographs of airplanes in flight taken from the open back door of a C-130. Seems simple enough, but it must be difficult. Erik Hildebrandt makes it look easy and does it over and over again, producing a book full of breathtaking views of old and new airplanes in formation just a few feet from the door. The appeal to the photographers and their kin is obvious. The book will also wow airplane fans, lovers of vintage warbirds and airshow groupies. Do you remember Apollo 8 with Anders, Lovell and Borman? They are still at work flying and having fun in their own personal airplanes next to the latest F-18's.
