This review is from: Heritage Is (Audio CD)
Great blowing throughout, natural bluesy feel on some extended tracks- gospel influenced call and response on others, wonderful arrangements, and to boot a clear recording. Look, other than John Stubblefield and Cecil Bridgewater, I'd never heard of the soloists but man, well worth the investment. Don't look for much piano soloing- the rhythm section is purely serving the hornsmen- but where pianist Donald Smith attacks percusively, it is a refreshing texture. Overall, a playing with balls and purpose, very soulful session!
