Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 7 Up--These books describe three African peoples and their land, history, social and political life, customs, religious beliefs, and their relationship with others in the regions they inhabit. The authors' writing styles are lucid and comprehensible. The many well-selected, well-placed, vivid full-color and black-and-white photographs not only actively supplement and enhance the texts, but also show the warmth and vivacity of the people in day-to-day life. Each title has a political map of Africa and a map that clearly shows the areas under discussion. The glossaries and indexes are useful, but the books listed for further reading might not be easily available except in specialized university or research libraries. These series entries are highly informative, offer reliable insights, and fill a serious gap in African cultural material.
