This review is from: Hermandad De La Sabana Santa (Best Selle) (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
This novel begins in contemporary Italy with an arson investigation at the Cathedral in Turin, in what seems an attempt against the Holy Shroud. The narrative tells two alternating stories, both centered in the controversial Holy Shroud. From the start of the investigation of the arson, the fast-paced narrative brings us from the time when Jesus Christ preached to his first followers, through the medieval Knights Templar to a contemporary group of highly educated single men powerful in the corporate world of buisness, in the art world, and even in the Catholic Church. The author (a Spaniard journalist) masters a combination of history and imagination, police work and art history, with a neutrality in religious beliefs that is striking given that her main subject in this interesting and intelligent novel is the Holy Shroud. The plot will soon captivate you.
I must confess that I was a bit disappointed with the end, but overall I highly recommend this novel. It is interesting to read about the Holy Shroud separately (wikipedia is a good source) to better understand Navarro's smart proposal that would please many interpretations to the known facts. |
