Book Description

September 17, 2007
Deep in the mysterious night where all is but distorted dreaming, far beyond the logical grasp of man, yet buried deep in our hearts, there lives an ancient myth instructing us in the mystical art of alchemy and magic.

Hermetica is an epic journey of poetic and verse drama that strives to find links between differing aspects of Egyptian mythology. As folklore was once such an embedded tradition, there was no need to record anything on papyri, even after the advent of hieroglyphic and cuneiform writing systems. As a result, an entire body of oral literature has been lost. What remains is but a small part of a potentially massive collection of unrecorded myth.

Using the ancient tools of alchemy and magic, this volume seeks to sculpt the events leading to the death, dismemberment, and resurrection of Osiris. Also included is the sequel to the popular Middle Kingdom tale, “The Story of the Shipwrecked Sailor,” and a dramatic interpretation of the Ptolemaic Lamentations of Isis and Nephthys. The accompanying poetry is a tribute to love, a pure byproduct of the alchemical process.

Delve into the realms of unexplored myth, legend, and love as viewed through the hermetical musings of modern-day alchemist and poet, Paul Kiritsis.

5.0 out of 5 stars A look at the ancient world, filled with history and legends, June 6, 2008
This review is from: Hermetica: Myths, Legends, Poems (Paperback)
Experienced author & poet Paul Kiritsis is back with "Hermetica: Myths, Legends, Poems". A look at the ancient world, filled with the history and legends of how these ancient traditions came into being, and the mourning that due to certain circumstances, some of these ancient traditions and literature are lost. A deftly composed and compiled collection, "Hermetica: Myths, Legends, Poems" is a top pick for literature readers in general, and for community library collections catering to them. Teardrop: I hid your essence, that small bundle of boy, As the vowel in a harmonic minor, And floated it along the scale/ of my silent consonants-//Seducing midnight/with folk songs/Of love found/And love lost.//Warming her heart/with bittersweet words/That delivered us/As a teardrop/From her eye.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take this mystical journey, February 26, 2008
By
This review is from: Hermetica: Myths, Legends, Poems (Paperback)
It's great to see this up and coming author produce a second collection of writing, "Hermetica: Myths, Legends, Poems" which builds on his first published work, "Origin".

Paul Kiritsis has more-than-ably managed to surge forward in his exploration of ancient tales and myths and clearly knows his stuff.

The first section of this current work is a mix of poetry that draws on his own personal experiences and life, finely interwoven with mythical language and themes.

This is finely complimented with a series of verse-drama, drawn from ancient Greek and Egyptian mythology, respun on Kiritsis' literary spinning wheel. He imbues these myths with his own creative twists and the imaginative retellings will no doubt delight any who love myth as much as Kiritsis clearly does.

This is a must read for anyone into the esoteric, hermetics or myth more generally.
