Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
When your band is drawing comparisons to such heavyweight rockers as Dave Matthews to Creed to Third Day, you gotta be pleased, right? That goes double for Daily Planet, who are receiving such kudos for their debut, Hero. While the comparisons are a bit presumptuous for these four buddies from Azusa Pacific, there's no doubting that this band churn out an intelligent, powerful, and passionate brand of rock. In truth, Daily Planet's influences date further back and show clearly on such tracks as "Lost and Found," which features a 1974 Elton John-like power-chord chorus straight out of "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road." Then there's the lyrical and clever musical references to Sir Elton, Billy Joel, and the Beatles in "Six String Rocketeer," a tale of how a youth uses music to escape a troubled home. But give these Planeteers some credit--the music is solely theirs, as stamped by frontman Jesse Butterworth's robust vocal presence. "Everything Revolves Around You" and "Questioning the Notion" are shining examples (featuring some nifty lead guitar work from Bobby Reinsch) of how Christian rock can be from the head and the heart. --Michael Lyttle

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, y'all are awesome!, September 26, 2002
By "groonpooch1" (Gig Harbor, WA, USA) - See all my reviews
Where do I start? This CD is as good as it gets. I've told a number of people about this band, and let them borrow my cd, and every single one comes back to me saying how awesome it is. I have not found a single person that doesn't like it. When listening to the CD, you get a sense of sincerity. You feel like they connect with you, whether it be about something serious (questioning the notion, six-string rocketeer) or something funny (five), you can tell it's coming from the heart.

Favorite Songs: (of mine, but also almost everybody else I've talked to.)

#6 Questioning the Notion - awesome song about the world's problems.

#7 Six-String Rocketeer - great song for anybody, but especially relating to those going through, or who have gone through a divorce.

#9 3000 Miles Away - for all you softies, great love song.

#4 Tangled Web - actually my least favorite song overall, but very catchy guitar and it DEFINITELY should have been the theme to Spiderman.

Oh, and these guys are just as sincere in person. They are all awesome, real people, and they're concerts are just the same. There's no "look at me" mentality when they're on stage. They interact with people. They talk to people. They make fools of themselves. And best of all, they take no credit for their increasing popularity. Too many Christian bands act like they've become too good for their fans. Well, Daily Planet is breaking that trend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yeah but what about that grooooooooove??, October 6, 2003
By S. Enriquez (Sheboygan, WI United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Okay.....What can I say that won't sound trite and cliche? I'd been looking for some Christian music that wasn't OVERproduced (that's hard to find by the way) and NOT "poppy"... These guys are blessed!!! The lead singers voice has a great uniqueness to it (It reminds me of the lead singer of a secular band of the 90's called Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies)... The guitars are awesome.. I guess I can see where the comparisons mentioned earlier came from..
MY personal favorite song from this disc is "More to Life" .It starts out as if it's just another take in the studio. It's got a FANTASTIC groove to it... Flying Blind was a "grabber" (got me right away) and also "Everything Revolves Around You"...... Actually they're ALL winners but these are my personal favorites......
So if you like mainstream Christian Music you might steer away from this one.. But if you're looking for something original and with a bit of "attitude" this would be a gr8 choice.... I know everyones tastes are different. So if someone reads my review, buys the disc and is disappointed.PLEASE Forgive me if I mislead you.. I know it's important these days to be careful with your $$...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my all time favorites!, September 14, 2002
By A Customer
I love music, but rarely does a CD last in my CD changer for very long. I cannot stop listening to this album. Daily Planet's Hero has made me laugh, cry, and has challenged my concept of who God is. This album is like nothing I have ever experienced. The lyrics and overall creativity of the band go deep and wide. Give this album a listen. I swear that you will be hooked on Daily Planet for life.

Hero is an alright album. I like 3000 MIles and the beginning of Tangled Web. But most of the songs are just average and nothing really sticks out as a hit. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars About as good as it gets
I really did not expect much when I picked up this album. Usually christian releases have at best a song or two that are decent, and the rest is filler. Not so here. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Important: not synthpop
Just so you aren't confused-- this is not the synthpop group out of Sweden. That's a different Daily Planet (which does not seem to be available here at Amazon).
