Where do I start? This CD is as good as it gets. I've told a number of people about this band, and let them borrow my cd, and every single one comes back to me saying how awesome it is. I have not found a single person that doesn't like it. When listening to the CD, you get a sense of sincerity. You feel like they connect with you, whether it be about something serious (questioning the notion, six-string rocketeer) or something funny (five), you can tell it's coming from the heart. Favorite Songs: (of mine, but also almost everybody else I've talked to.) #6 Questioning the Notion - awesome song about the world's problems. #7 Six-String Rocketeer - great song for anybody, but especially relating to those going through, or who have gone through a divorce. #9 3000 Miles Away - for all you softies, great love song. #4 Tangled Web - actually my least favorite song overall, but very catchy guitar and it DEFINITELY should have been the theme to Spiderman. Oh, and these guys are just as sincere in person. They are all awesome, real people, and they're concerts are just the same. There's no "look at me" mentality when they're on stage. They interact with people. They talk to people. They make fools of themselves. And best of all, they take no credit for their increasing popularity. Too many Christian bands act like they've become too good for their fans. Well, Daily Planet is breaking that trend.

Okay.....What can I say that won't sound trite and cliche? I'd been looking for some Christian music that wasn't OVERproduced (that's hard to find by the way) and NOT "poppy"... These guys are blessed!!! The lead singers voice has a great uniqueness to it (It reminds me of the lead singer of a secular band of the 90's called Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies)... The guitars are awesome.. I guess I can see where the comparisons mentioned earlier came from..MY personal favorite song from this disc is "More to Life" .It starts out as if it's just another take in the studio. It's got a FANTASTIC groove to it... Flying Blind was a "grabber" (got me right away) and also "Everything Revolves Around You"...... Actually they're ALL winners but these are my personal favorites...... So if you like mainstream Christian Music you might steer away from this one.. But if you're looking for something original and with a bit of "attitude" this would be a gr8 choice.... I know everyones tastes are different. So if someone reads my review, buys the disc and is disappointed.PLEASE Forgive me if I mislead you.. I know it's important these days to be careful with your $$...

I love music, but rarely does a CD last in my CD changer for very long. I cannot stop listening to this album. Daily Planet's Hero has made me laugh, cry, and has challenged my concept of who God is. This album is like nothing I have ever experienced. The lyrics and overall creativity of the band go deep and wide. Give this album a listen. I swear that you will be hooked on Daily Planet for life.

One Word - Rocking!,

This review is from: Hero (Audio CD)
I come from a wide and various musical background, everything from the 80's era hair bands such as Motley Crue and Ozzy to the new rock rap of Limp Bizkit and the like. Recently turning my life I started searching for bands/music that would allow me to continue this pursuit while keeping me bouncing in my seat while driving or at work. Daily Planet has an awesome debut on their hands and through their music I can continue to grow and develop into my new life that I have dreamed of for so long. This is Christian rock at its best!

i completely agree with all the kudos Daily Planet has received. the amazon.com reviewer is right, the DMB comparison is not quite there, but that's not a slam... these guys still rock. if you loved Pray For Rain (PFR), you will love these guys. daily planet just plays good, fun music that is well above the bar for chistian music.

This is a great mix of fun songs and witty lyrics. Several of the songs have helped me through a bad day, Questioning the Notion really stands out as a life lesson. These guys have real talent, and they are using it to glorify our Maker! I love all the songs and I often change CDs after a few songs, but this one I could listen to all day! I highly reccomend that everyone should have this CD as part of their collection. The band has a great personality!

Just when I thought every album was starting to sound alike and follow the same formula, here comes Daily Planet! Don't get me wrong--there's a huge amount of great music being turned out in the genre but this is an album that, to me, stands out from the rest. It's rock, plain and simple. But not the head-banging, 3-chords-and-a-cloud-of-dust rock (not that there's anything wrong with that). It's rock that makes you remember why you started listening to rock in the first place. This is just a FUN album to listen to and I haven't found anything quite like it. And a huge bonus: the band sounds great live. So if you're looking for something fun and new that will rock your socks off, this is the album that you HAVE to pick up.

Simply put - WONDERFUL! Captivating lyrics, intricate guitar rifts, great vocals, and an awesome beat. While familiar (i.e traces of Third Day and pinch of Sean Groves), Daily Planet definitely pushes the Christian rock envelope in a great way!

What a CD. I bought it for the song "Flying Blind" but the rest of the CD is just fantastic. These guys are every bit as talented as the big name mainstream artists. This cd has found a permanat spot in the CD changer. Great Job and really looking forward to hearing more from them.

These guys are my heroes...,

The first time I heard "Flying Blind" I fell in love with the song. Figured I should see what else these guys have got, and I've been impressed. They've got a hard edge but I can still understand every word they say. The message is great, but it has the power to crossover and reach out with lyrics that aren't always overtly Christian (kind of like Jars of Clay there for a couple of albums in the middle). These lyrics are smart and the melodies stick with you.
"Lost and Found" is an awesome invention in its own right, and "Tangled Web" sounds like they might have been flirting with trying to get on a Spiderman soundtrack. "Six String Rocketeer" is an awesome tribute to great songs gone by while "Hero" is a great commentary on some of the supposed -role model- figures of today's pop culture. "3000 Miles Away" has possibly some of the most clever lyrics I've ever heard wrapped up in a simplistic melody that can't be described as anything other than, "it really works." Finally, I love the pictures they paint in "Five" talking about driving all night just to see the sun rise and and daring you to catch up with the audacious child that is their faith rewarded. I'm anxiously awaiting their next release. |
