Like any other Metallica CD this one is great! I like "Kill/Ride Medley" a lot because it combines six great songs into one. And it is live, and, of course, Metallica is the best band when it comes to live music. I do not recommend it so much for "Hero of the Day", since you could get that one on "Load". But if you collect singles, like I do, then you should get this single even if you do have "Load"!

Hero of the Day part 1; This one contains the first 2 tracks from the ''Motorheadache'' E.P., "Overkill"(also featured on the Until it sleeps U.S. single) and "Damage Case"(not also featured elsewhere..).Just in case you don't know, these two tracks were originally Motorhead tracks. I think they are rocking, solid tracks by the "4 horsemen of the Bay Area"! Of course I'm not saying these are better than the originals, only because I've never heard the originals. The last track is "Hero of the day Outta b-sides mix", and fortunately they toned down the techno effects(unlike in the "Until it Sleeps Herman Melville mix" and the horrid "For Whom the Bell Tolls Haven't-heard-it-yet mix"), and otherwise being a decent remix. This one is stored in a "slimcase" like most singles.

Hero of the Day part 2; This one contains the second two tracks from the "Motorheadache" E.P., "Stone Dead Forever" and "Too Late Too Late". Just like the first two tracks, these are rocking tracks and were originally Motorhead's. The last track is "Hero of the Day Demo Version". Musically it's better, but lyrically, well, there are no lyrics. The sound quality of the demo is... well it was recorded in Lars' "Dungeon" (Lucky him... He has a cool dungeon!), so... This one is stored in a normal jewel case.

Hero of the Day U.S.; This one just has the "Kill/Ride Medley", a live recording of 6 (?) tracks from "Kill" and "Ride" all mashed together in one 10+ minute recording, although this one is on "Until it Sleeps pt.2". This one is stored in some weird slipcase-like sleeve.

As for Hero of the Day part 3, I don't have that one (YET!!!!!) but I know it is has the "Motorheadache" E.P. as the b-sides, it is "Limited Edition" and it is in a slipcase (Not the same one as the U.S. version). Oh, and it has a poster.
AND, there is also the vinyl version, I don't own that one (YET!!!!!!!!!!!!), but I know that is b/w The alternate versions of track 1 (Remix and Demo) and "Overkill".
And as for the cassette (Remember those..?), I don't own that one (YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) either, and I don't know it's b-sides either.

SO, if you get part 1 or 2(Sorry, WHEN you get...), get part 2 or 1 with it.

If you haven't heard the Kill/Ride Medley performed on this single you're missing out. Metallica took most of the best riffs/parts from their first two albums and smashed them together into 10 minutes and 17 seconds of absolute Metallica greatness. Very much like their "Justice Medley" this is a single worth searching for!

The reason to buy this single is Track 2, the "Kill/Ride Medley". It's a truly great live performance from Donington '95. The medley begins with parts of Ride The Lightning, then goes through No Remorse, Hit The Lights, The Four Horsemen, Phantom Lord, and Fight Fire With Fire in that order. And then it ends with Ride The Lightning again. It's great.
This is slightly different than the Kill/Ride Medley that appears on the "Cunning Stunts" DVD. In that version, Seek And Destroy is played instead of Phantom Lord.

"hero of the day" is "hero of the day": a great song but not the greatest and it's one you all know. the reason this is so incredible is because of the Kill/Ride Medley. not only is it filled with amazing songs but the continuity and fluidity with which they are played is beautiful. anyone who enjoys live metallica and the first two albums must have this single.

Although "Hero of the Day" to me was overplayed, Its nice to have when the lights are on Reload and Garage Inc. Also Metallica knows how to play live, and it shows on the Kill/Ride track. Starting from, Ride the Lightning (song) and ending with it, the song is packed full of heavy playing and loud singing. Defenitly worth the money

Only a two song CD single but I actually enjoy the Hero of the Day song, plus you get the bonus song The Kill Ride Melody a mixture of songs put together during the tours. So if your into all their old stuff from the first album and their new song then pick this CD Single up and enjoy some good music by my favorite band Metallica.

This is, as is usual for metallica, an excellent release. Hero of the day ,though not the best song on Load, is an excellent example of the more mellow, thoughtful and feeling metallica we have come to know since the release of the Nothing Else Matters single from the black album. Its tormenting, soulful riffs and vocals are excellent. The single is well polished off with two alternate versions of the title track and three other songs including Motorheads brilliant Too Late, Too Late. This single is above metals usual standards but just below the high standards of a metallica single. It will not be the best CD you will ever buy ,but it would make an interesting addition to anybodies collection.

This CD is for anyone that likes Metallica. "Hero of the Day" Is in my opinion one of the best songs I have ever heard. The guitar riffs are incredible and the lyrics speak for themselves. This is the awesome single any hard rock fan would fall in love with the first time they pop it in their player. On a scale of 1-10 this single is a 20.

This single has only two tracks, but its 15 minutes of great music. The highlight of the CD is the amazing Kill/Ride Medley. Recorded in England in 1995, it features songs from the first two albums. This single proves Metallica's extreme diversity between slower and heavier tunes. A definite must-have in any music collection.
