Man Devotes Life to Springing the Wrongly Accused
By his mid-thirties, Jim McCloskey was a wealthy businessman who decided his life was "shallow, selfish, superficial, and inauthentic" and chucked it all to become a Presbyterian minister. As part of his training, he was assigned to Trenton's New Jersey State Prison. There, in 1980, he met convicted murderer Jorge "Chiefie" De Los Santos, who swore he didn't do it. McCloskey believed him. Running through much of his life savings, McCloskey finally found the real killer and got him to confess. De Los Santos was set free, spurring McCloskey to create the Centurion Ministries, a group devoted to proving the innocence of the wrongly accused. To date he has helped more than two dozen prisoners.
