Editorial Reviews

For citizens of the Xian Empire, justice is a myth. Lord Keiro, the deranged Shogun of the Imperial Army, blazes a trail of terror across the countryside in search of the sacred sword that will make him a god. Standing in his way is Taito, an omnipotent star reborn in human form – a young hero who vows to use his celestial strength to avenge those slaughtered by the villainous Shogun. Taito’s mystical powers steer him toward a violent showdown with Keiro, and if used recklessly, his newfound abilities could shred the very fabric of his being. To master the art of control and become a heroic martial artist, Taito must seek the guidance of others like him: the seven star-born warriors with the strength to shatter a corrupt empire.

The Limited Edition sku will be sold in a collectible art box and feature 4 premium art cards.

The series has a nice mix of FMA/Naruto/Twelve Kingdoms and the cast of characters are just as enjoyable as those on the previous mentioned series as well. The short basic story is you have a powerful warrior who wishes to rule all and in order to do so must obtain a powerful foretold weapon, and while trying to obtain this weapon attacks the home of the hero as well as killing many of the hero's closest friends and family as such you have the hero now obsessed with defeating this vile enemy goes on a journey to find and defeat this nefarious villain and of course along the way helps the common people and gathers a group of other fighters who join him along the way to defeat the main villain. The series animation and soundtrack are also very reminiscent of the Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood series not surprising since this series was co-written by the creator of the FMA series. The series comes in two sets, all together the series comes on four dvds put into thin dvd cases and into a paper sleeve. The sets also come with a added dvd with the bonuses and extras so in all with both sets you get six dvds, the voice cast as expected for the Japanese crew were very well done as was the English dubbed cast. So if you're looking for a very entertaining and addictive series here's a very under looked series right here to check out...

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a good anime, but... August 1, 2011
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This anime is definitely worth a look. The seven stars correspond to the stars of the Big Dipper and each give their earthly form a particular perspective making things interesting and unique.

Hero Tales starts out as the main villain Keiro attacks the temple the main protagonist Taito lives in search of the Sword of Rule. After defeating many of those in residence, Keiro finds the Sword of Rule but is unable to sheath it. He then squares off with Taito who is able to sheath the sword. However, Keiro defeats Taito and takes the sword. Thus beginning the hero's tale for vengeance.

Along the way, Taito runs into various problems along the way to find Keiro. The empire is in a terrible state and he constantly find himself cleaning up the mess while training to get stronger to defeat Keiro.

The best part about this anime is the characters. They are fun and all bring something unique to the table. They all have their struggles at one point or another giving this anime life. Shimei is my favorite character and is fun, even though he is a main antagonist.

Many theme of friendship, family, honor, hardheadedness, and personal growth make this a good anime. The emotional depth of this anime is incredible and it really does a nice job pulling you into the characters and wanting the best for them.

However, I have two main problems with this anime. The first is the lack of action. It has good action when it decided to actually show it. There are numerous cases where a character is surround by a group of enemies and then the anime will cut to another scene, and then cut back showing all the enemies defeated.

2.0 out of 5 stars Did NOT like this show. November 25, 2012

It was very juvenile and I couldn't get into the characters. I thought I might like it from the description and while the drawing style is fantastic it's just not a good show. The characters are very immature and it's kind of a weird relationship they all have with one another. I wouldn't recommend it.
