Product Description

Set off on a puzzle adventure through three of the most famous civilizations in history, the Roman, the Vikings and the Incans.
You play as a young scientist and his pet monkey, who are travelling back through time to rescue ancient artefacts (or in the monkey’s case, steal ancient jewels.)
You’ll have to cut chains or ropes to drop coloured balls into matching pots. It may sound easy, but the taxing physics puzzles involve bizarre objects like crossbows, catapults, fountains and volcanoes. It certainly makes for addictive gameplay. Watch out—things get tricky and you’ll need to use your head, and some quick reactions to solve later levels - especially if you want those bonus diamonds!
Easy to pick up and play, with colorful visuals and classic puzzle gameplay, Civiballs is a brain teasing adventure not to be missed.

Update: this app seems to have been pulled early as the free app of the day. By Amazon. That should tell you something.

Original review: Contains not just Flurry Analytics but also Google Analytics (in an Amazon paid app, no less). This app also contains SAMSUNG In-App billing code. Yes, that's right, Samsung.

NONE of this is disclosed by the developer, so I will happily disclose it for them.

Developer: No thank you. I didn't opt IN to this, I was NOT told about it and I am given NO choice to opt OUT.

Sorry developer, but if YOU have nothing to hide then WHY are you hiding it? Hmmm?

Too bad, too. This appears to be an interesting game. But there's no way I can trust this developer as things stand. So it goes bye bye from my devices. No thank you, not even as the FAOTD.

One star.

P.S. I don't think I need to even further mention the permissions this time. I think they speak for themselves how over the line this developer is.

First this game plays great. As others have said it's somewhat like Cut the Rope. The graphics are wonderful and the puzzles keep your mind working.

Someone mentioned this was the same app as in the Google Play store which is free. This is different. While yes they seem to show an ad promoting another of their own games at startup that appears to be the end of it. The free version at the Play Store apparently constantly and randomly has ads pop up.

My biggest problems with this game:

1) Shady data mining spware is not disclosed, I thought this was required? See other reviews for a list of them.
2) In-App Purchasing. I don't mind IAP for free games, but for paid games it's showing that developers are just outright greedy.

I recommend playing this game with internet turned off due to the invasive permissions and blatant spyware.

2.0 out of 5 stars another bad one May 15, 2014

Has ads despite being a paid app. Pretty uninspired and not at all original. Honestly not impressed but more bothered by the fact that yet another paid app still shoves ads for other uninspired crap games down our throats.

1.0 out of 5 stars Civiballs May 15, 2014

Civiballs? Well, it's got some kind of balls, that's for sure. To charge you for the privilege of not only forcing ads on you but to surreptitiously steal your information while refusing to disclose the spyware they're jamming into YOUR personal property/device? Yeah, I'd say there are definitely some kind of balls involved...
Thankfully we do have people like Thom Bone and others that are willing to check the path for traps and pitfalls. It's completely up to you what you do with the information...But at least be thankful you're getting the information and not remaining blind while unscrupulous developers rip and rob everything they can get.

1.0 out of 5 stars Let's Crank Up some AC/DC and Sing... May 15, 2014

He's got civiballs, She's got civiballs, but HeroCraft has the biggest CIVIBALLS of them all!

Seriously, HeroCraft Ltd. really messed up a beautiful game. First hit... dude, you have this big ole line to enter a profile name, but a 6 letter maximum so I can't fit my name, Tinfoot, in? Fail!

2nd hit, before I even play the game, you are popping a full screen advert for games? Then on main menu, a rotating popup cycle of yet more games (just a tad above the Play button no less), with MORE games to the upper left, and YET MORE games via direct App Store linking (which then proceeded to stop working when I hit it?) Fail, Fail, Fail Soup with donkey chunks.

Then there is the permissions and all that guff, Adware, FlurryAnalytics, blah blah fail. Read Battery Statistics, eh? Not a very common one, and it has the potential to reveal the presence ALL OTHER SYSTEM APPS running at the same time. Could also mean this game is a massive battery hog. Top it off, CIVIBALLS remains active after exiting- I.e. the permissions are still in "play" untill the Android task killer (or the user manually) closes it. Sneaky Fail!

So in the sum of it all, watch out, Rovio, you got some competition! But not in a good way. And like Rovio, a 1 star royal crown of FAIL.

1.0 out of 5 stars MAJOR RED FLAG! May 15, 2014

Downloading this app, I knew in advance that the permissions were out of line. So I turned off my wifi as I do with almost all apps to see if they can played offline before I opened the app. The first thing I get from this app is a pop-up about how there is an error accessing my Amazon App Store.

EXCUSE ME!?!?!?!

What the heck is any app trying to access Amazon without first being told to by the user? IAPs were not listed as content of this app and my Kindle updates apps just fine without an app pretending that's the intention of trying to access the Amazon App Store. I have never seen an app try to access the Amazon App Store so blatantly fast.

I will not even re-visit this app to update this review for this developer, the behavior of this developer is appalling and maybe all developers should begin to take notice that if you want to make money selling apps, then you cannot make money selling information on the side as well.

Worst FAOTD this week.

This app contains just about everything you are trying to avoid. First of all it contains Samsung In-App Billing. Top that off with Flurry Analytics and then Google Analytics you have an app that can monitor your game play and collect all of the data that you allow by accepting the permissions when you download the game.

As soon as I typed in a name an ad popped up pushing an app called Neon Commander. Come on guys I wanted to play the game I just downloaded. Ads keep popping up on the main screen and sliding up and down trying to get you to touch them to get other games. It is continuous action of ads. In the RH top corner is a bag with a handle on it and when you touch then it wants to take you to the internet. Guess what, it is to sell you more games!

There is a one page set of instructions that you get by touching the gear (Ignore the misspelled word) and then the question mark. The game is actually OK and in it you drop colored ball trying to make sure that they fall into pots of the same color. You get to use ball weighs to start the action in some cases. If you actually make a mistake the screen pops up a message that states "mistake".

Overall the app is about a 3 to 4 star which means it is OK. The addition of all of the permissions, built in Analytics and Samsung In-App billing drops it to zero but I am forced to give it one star. The developer should get rid of all the spyware and pop up game ads. They are annoying!

Permissions:
* Read phone status and identity
* View network connections
* Modify or delete the contents of your USB external storage
* Write media storage
* Full networks access
* View WIFI connections
* Prevent tablet from sleeping
* Monitor battery status

I'm not too big into games like Angry Birds, however I found this game to have the right balance of difficultly and strategy that I'm looking for. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
