A brilliant Pop Art celebration of Afro-American music, January 22, 2006
This review is from: Heroes of the Blues Trading Cards (Paperback)
Full-color, pen & ink portraits by underground comix genius Robert Crumb of 36 early great blues singers and musicians including Blind Lemon Jefferson, Charley Patton, Son House, Mississippi John Hurt, Memphis Minnie, and groups such as Cannon's Jug Stompers and the Mississippi Sheiks. In the fashion of baseball cards, the back of each card contains a short bio written by Stephen Calt. Crumb's portraits capture the humanity and individuality of each performer. Highly recommended to blues collectors, Crumb fans, and to young people who first encountered the blues in movies such as "Ghost World." This set of 36 3"x4" cards was originally published by Eclipse in 1995, then reissued with different coloring on the box by Kitchen Sink Press.
