Coinciding with the fortieth anniversary of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, this dazzling pictorial showcases the 217 members of the hall. Alphabetically arranged from Adderley to Youngblood, each player is pictured in four-color glory, along with a listing of vital statistics and a concise bio of what made him different from the rest. Some of the photographs are boxed, and some have the image floating on the page, the two styles complementing each other well. In the book's overview, Smith, a Sporting News editor, provides a brief history of the hall and outlines the rather simple selection process. Former offensive lineman and current broadcaster Dan Dierdorf, who grew up one mile from the Hall of Fame's site in Canton, Ohio, supplies the introduction, imparting the sense of awe he feels as an inductee: "These men, to me, were larger than life."
