Book Description

June 1, 2009
Emerson and Claudia didn t have much in common. He was an intelligent loner; she was a shy, but beautiful, sales representative. They didn t like the same movies or aspire to the same dreams. But they did have one important thing in common: they both needed someone, someone to help them move beyond their tragic pasts. She had a past she could not manage to forget; he had a past he could not manage to piece together. It would be natural to wonder whom, or maybe what, was responsible for their unlikely meeting on an icy road high in the Sierra Mountains. Was it fate, God, forces of nature, or just sheer dumb luck that brought them together? Whatever it may have been, they were soon to realize that the only chance either of them had for true peace delicately hinged on the compassion of the other.

3.0 out of 5 stars Secrets, July 14, 2009
This review is from: Heroes of the Heart (Paperback)
Anytime a person learns of a secret his life is changed whether good or bad. During that time, a friend or loved one is often needed to help him make it through the changes. In Heroes of the Heart by Rod Loche, Emerson and Claudia meet by chance. Together they would stand strong in battling each other's difficult time.

Claudia and Emerson were from two different walks of life. He was comfortable working from home in a stable position making a comfortable living. She was still trying to figure out what she wanted to be. But both of them were the perfect friend the other could possibly ask for. Claudia was there for Emerson when he began realizing some thing about his family was a bit off. Emerson was there to try and open Claudia's eyes to what truly had been holding her back from being successful in life. Would they both succeed in helping the other overcome the obstacles preventing from being happy?

The plot was unexpected and well developed. All the characters were well developed except for Claudia's Aunt Hilda. While I enjoyed the book, I was disturbed by how Aunt Hilda was portrayed. She was supposed to be a woman from the islands; which is fine, but islanders do not speak phonetically or use a word that means something totally different from the actual word that should have been used. The technique used to signify her patios was poorly executed and left this woman sounding illiterate and ignorant. She was far from that, which I could tell from the conversation she had with Claudia and those around her. The timeline was inaccurate as well. I kept flipping back to make sure I was not missing something or I did not read something wrong. The timeline along with a few other errors could be cleared up with some more editing. It would help to move the story along smoother. Put all that aside, Heroes of the Heart was a descent read. I recommend this book to readers looking for an easy read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Strong Testament To The Power Of Unconditional Love, August 6, 2009
By
This review is from: Heroes of the Heart (Paperback)
Emerson appears to have it all together in life - but when he learns a shocking secret from his past, he is thrust into an emotional tailspin from which he may not recover...

Claudia's journey through life is ever-evolving - but when she's finally forced to confront a longtime deterrent that's kept her from reaching her full potential, she may not be able to summon the strength to meet the challenge head-on...

When the two unsuspecting souls happen to meet in a chance encounter one day, neither of them can prepare themselves for just how much - and how quickly - their lives will soon change, as well as just how much they'll need one another in order to survive their individual and collective transformations...

Heroes Of The Heart is a moving, insightful read. In it, author Rod Loché does a commendable job of depicting the jarring effects that life-changing moments often have on us - as well as our typical reactions to them. His tale further underscores just how important it is to have the support of someone special in our lives when those moments occur - in light of just how tragic the consequences can be if we don't.

Furthermore, Loché's portrayal of Emerson and Claudia as flawed heroes focuses less on the flaws and more on the heroism that they display in the face of unexpected adversity - salient traits the reader would be wise to learn to emulate and apply in his/her own life.

Engaging, uplifting, and ultimately heart-warming, Heroes Of The Heart is a strong testament to the power of unconditional love. A recommended read.
