1.0 out of 5 stars Rails, Rails and Condescenion.
This game tries so hard to the player a believable story and it delivers it all with credible voice acting too.. Sadly i fought with doors, got lost finding objectives and fell again and again from ladders ledges and windows.

4.0 out of 5 stars great game, low budget packaging, August 7, 2009

I was only looking for the expansions for this game. I found this and ordered it instead however because this was cheaper than buying just the expansions. I ended up giving my original game to a friend. The game is totally complete. The expansions are great. All of the patches are already completed. The downside of this deal is that they did cut back on productin costs in every way possible. No manual is inclded and disks were loose to slide around inside the pack. There was no damage to the disks themselves though. The instructions are included on the CD's in PDF format. Also there is an included is a disk for 3 month trial for an internet security program. The expansions themselves are very excelent, they add so much more than just new maps and charactors to the game. You are getting about a $70 value when our purchase this set.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Ten Best Turn Based Games at very cheap price!, July 27, 2010
This review is from: Heroes Of Might & Magic V Epic Collection (DVD-ROM)
The HOMM V Epic Collection is an amazing value, because it includes the basic game plus both expansions for under $20! This is hundreds of hours of compaign play, in addition to playing against real people.

I consider HOMM V one of the top 10 turn based games computer games ever! So this makes it a particularly great value at this price. Others on my list of top turn based computer games includes HOMM 3 (but not HOMM 4), Masters of Orion 2 (But NOT MOO3), etc. Considering that there are not that many truly great turn based games, HOMM V is a very welcome addition!

I find the user interface very easy to use. It is extremely configurable. For those who like the HOMM 3 interface, there is an option to configure the interface to look like HOMM 3. You can display the battle grid or not. You can display move distances or not. You can have a 3D view or not. 5 minutes in configuration could eliminate about 99% of the interface complaints of other reviewers.

I think the graphics and sound are good, too. It would be nice if those who were complaining had something specific to mention, instead of just saying it was not to their taste.

The scenarios have 5 levels of selectable difficulty. If the reviewer was playing on the easiest level and was still having trouble, then he clearly did not understand the strategy at all. I have won all of the campaigns on the hardest difficulty, so I know it is doable. Yes, it is very difficult, but the hardest difficulty SHOULD BE very difficult. I found the Normal difficulty to be very straightfoward; even a casual gamer should be able to win on Normal. And my young children can win on Easy.

The only legitimate issue I saw raised by any previous reviewer is that the game comes unpatched. I agree with the reviewer; a final edition of a series ought to be released fully patched. This is a major oversight, and normally I would take off 1 star.

BUT this product is otherwise so amazing in terms of game play AND value, even with the patch issue it is still worth 5 full stars. It is just that good!

I've played several of the HOMM games and this one did not disappoint me. I found it to be quite enjoyable and rich in graphics and story. I'm still playing it and looking forward to trying out all the different paths and options.

4.0 out of 5 stars unnecessary except for the campaigns, August 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Heroes Of Might & Magic V Epic Collection (DVD-ROM)
I bought the epic collection only to find out that tribes of the east was a standalone expansion pack containing everything in the original release and previous expansion.

So you don't need to buy this. You just need to buy the "tribes of the East" standalone pack, unless you want to play the campaigns for the other two.

But be forewarned, the campaigns do not have the gameplay expansions of the subsequent expansions. So any interface introduced in tribes of the east will not be present in the first campaign.

Also, the epic collection has this bonus "hero trails." A trail unique to each race follows your hero. (dungeon heroes have a purple hazy trail, inferno has a fire trail, etc). But I wouldn't say that's a basis for paying more money.

Finally, if you want to know how the game plays, you'll have to see reviews on another page.

After I ordered this product I became a little concerned that it might not contain product codes to allow online play. However, the codes are contained in the box so it was fine. All discs are contained in individual wrap and I had no problem installing game.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good game that is not without its flaws, September 28, 2009

An in depth strategy game that is loads of fun. The only down sides are that the game takes forever and a day to complete even one map. Another downside is that the AI cheats a little bit to give itself extra resources and that the game really isn't any fun unless you play with friend(s). But if you can get some people together and play hot seat the game really shows its strength. I recommend this game for someone with friends that enjoy similar games but if you're just going to play by yourself look elsewhere.

Got the game and got started on it. It's a fun game. Better graphics then the ones before it. The campaigns go through all the available players involved. Do recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good turn based strategy game., November 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Heroes Of Might & Magic V Epic Collection (DVD-ROM)
I just picked this game up a few weeks ago and so far I am enjoying it. The game play is decent, and the story so far is pulling me in. The dialog can be hilarious at points, "Tree-shagging pixies" or "The town I needed, but not this.....poetry?" Some of the voice overs are a bit cheezy though, but then again watch any B-Rated Sci-Fi and you'll get the same thing.

There are a few areas that are a bit frustrating but like other reviews have mentioned look up a walk-through and you might find that on some of those missions you were not doing things correctly or were in the wrong area(this happened to me a few times). The mission to get Godric to Nicolai annoyed me to no end, trying to fight the last garrison over and over to no avail with the massive army that was there. Once I looked it up I realized I didn't even need to deal with the garrison, just go the other way and the mission would end....DUH!! At first I just played the version that came in the box, but then I decided to restart and find a version upgrade. What a difference. In v1.6 there is a new feature that lets you right click on an opposing army to see how hard it would be for your army to fight it(difficulty - very low, low, normal, hard, very hard, and the incredibly awesome "not a chance"). This has come in quite handy on numerous occasions

I don't really know what else to say about this game, for the price I definitely think it's worth it to pick it up.
