Product Description

Get ready for some hand-to-handheld combat! Based on the popular role-playing/strategy series for the PC, Heroes of Might and Magic will pit your leadership skills against three evil warlords. By choosing among different hero types--barbarian, sorceress, knight, and warlock--you'll be charged with the duties of capturing lands, building castles, and raising armies to fight on the side of good. Also on your side are a collection of powerful spells and more than two dozen different creatures that can join your cause.

Heroes of Might and Magic comes with more than 20 maps to explore for treasure and magical items--and with the built-in battery save, you won't have to start from the beginning each time you play. Battle is done in a fully animated turn-based system where your heroes will gain the spoils of experience and magic, as well as fortune, for their victories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for a flight, October 4, 2000

Let's face it - Heroes of Might and Magic is not the perfect game for a GameBoy. However, the creators managed to get the most of it. The graphics are clear, the music decent, and you have the choice of several dosen maps of different size and level. As in the PC version, you build up your cities and hire armies. However, unlike the PC game you are rather limited here (no marketplace and no army upgrades). As for the interface, the developer did a fabulous job to make them very intuitive.

However, the game can get very tedious. The small screen of a GameBoy simply cannot show too much of a map, so you can expect a lot of scrolling around.

I found out this was the perfect game to play on a flight, where it's hard to keep your concentration.

In the July issue of Nintendo Power they gave Heroes of M&M a 6.9, so I was a little worried after I ordered it. Well, they were wrong. This is the best game I have played for game boy. The graphics are not going to turn heads, but you can tell the difference between guys. The sound does it's job. The control is awesome and there are enough scenarios for a while. Just make sure you have enough batteries.

This review is from: Heroes Of Might And Magic (Game Cartridge)
I've played the computer version, and it was pretty sweet. The gameboy version has a lot of the same elements, and that's great. It fills a demand lacking in the rest of the games out there. However, the controls are a bit tedious. Some games are not made for gameboy, and for good reason. This game probably shouldn't have even made it to gameboy color. The graphics are abstract and overall ... in comparison to other platforms of Heroes. But that's how it is. It's the gameboy version. If you like the computer game, you may feel the need to want to play Heroes on a road trip or in a waiting room, or perhaps on an airplane. Is it worth it? I think so, but my advice is look into Heroes 2 for gameboy. Maybe it's improved.
