4.0 out of 5 stars The MIght and Magic evolution continues
When I learned about the suprise early release of this product I made sure I was by my local vendor's side when he opened his shipment. If any of you remember the Might & Magic game from the Sega Genesis, you'd certainly hope this game was similiar. Well sorry to tell you, it's nothing like that particular game, nor like Warriors of M&M released on the PS2.

When I learned about the suprise early release of this product I made sure I was by my local vendor's side when he opened his shipment. I took it home and played it 12 hours straight and I must say this is not the Heroes style I played on the PC. 3DO took a risk on this since it is the first PS2 release of this type of game, it is uncharted territory. I must make this clear right away, this it NOT anything like Crusaders of Might and Magic. That game was a mistake by any standard. It more resembles the Heroes series strategy genre. To be honest, I must admit I miss the multiple resource system of the PC versions(in this version you have only gold). And I think the ommision of castle/town building was a mistake. That being said, this game has plenty to offer for both old fans of the series and newcomers. The 3-D graphics, coloring and freestlye camera angles offer plenty of eye candy for the player. The 3-D battle field is a very welcome addition. The creature animations are great. For example, if a creature is hit with arrows they move around with arrows stuck in thier bodies till the end of battle. Thier movement across the battlefield and reactions to incoming attacks are amusing as well. The game has randomly generated maps that change each time you start a new game. But each time I have started a new game the first continent remained basically the same. Services each town offers location of treasures, villains and artifacts also change with each new game. I think 3DO assumed that console players would not be receptive to the tride and true original Heroes format and are trying to appeal to the more action oriented younger player. If they ever create another heroes game with some of the original building concepts and couple it with the 3-D environment and battle system in this version it would be considered a must have for every PS2 gamer who enjoys games other than just shooters or racers. I am confident 3DO will not forsake any future installments but will adapt as they have before.

If any of you remember the Might & Magic game from the Sega Genesis, you'd certainly hope this game was similiar. Well sorry to tell you, it's nothing like that particular game, nor like Warriors of M&M released on the PS2.

This, as another reviewer had pointed out is King's Bounty from the Sega system; with better graphics. The maps are identical, villians the same. Not one part of this game was upgraded for the PS2. I sit and wonder why? It was a decent game that kept me entertained...but with the power of the PS2 you'd think they'd add some bells and whistles. This certainly was not a game that was soooo great it had to have been released on the PS2.

Buy the game if you liked Kings Bounty (I did like the game and thus the only reason I gave it 3 stars) but don't buy this if your looking for a great PS2 game. Save your money for Metal Gear.

The title of the section says it all. I thought this game would be an RPG and it ended up being some game equivilent to Britney's Dance Beat (which is the worst game ever). You ride around on a horse while you recruit farmers and zombies to recieve a staff. You control these characters, which die in 2 seconds, against innumerable amounts of other farmers and zombies. You pick up money in boxes and then get it taken away because your peasants revolted. You then die and go back to where you started...To do what??? Recruit more farmers!. Yahoo! Good Fun! Too bad i couldnt choose to put 0 stars on this review, because if i could....i rate this a negative 5 so that anyone who bought or created this game would cry at their horrible purchase and product. I hate this game with an aggresive passion. :(

Well, first off let me say I loved the PC versions of Heroes. This is what I hoped for in the PS2 version. I was very unhappy with this game. The graphics are pretty, but it limits you to the troop types and quantity your hero can round up. Also, as mentioned in another review the only resource is gold, so you can't use a market place to make your life easier. Combat is very well done with the exception of dead troops getting a counter attack. I also like that you can pull troops from a garrison. However don't go over your control limits of troops as they will go insane and kill off the rest of your troops. I stopped playing it after 2 attemps to have fun. 3DO if you are reading, you should have RENAMED this title so as not to confuse it with a great game series. Borrow a friends copy before wasting ....

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than you think, December 23, 2003

This review is from: Heroes of Might and Magic (Video Game)
I decided to write this review in response to some of what other people said.
Yes, Heroes of M&M is exactly like King's Bounty, it's even made by the same company.
I think the main thing people are missing about the game is the difficulty of it. If you have more troops than your income or leadership can support then you will lose your troops. Also, some troops are better suited to fight certain units. I also read another review that complained about the lack of spells, I agree that there are not many spells, but again, take into account that the game can be a bit challenging. If there were a ton of spells or the spells were too powerful, then it would be easy. I gave the game 3 stars mainly because the load times got on my nerves.

Also, a tip for anyone who plays/will play this game, try searching the chests to find the maps to other continents. While searching, put everything into leadership and then when you eventually get to the 4th continent, find the dragons and with less than 10 dragons you can conquer the first 2 continents easily and you can fly with the triangle button. If you have played this game for a short while and got sick of it, give it another try, if you never played it but are interested, you might want to rent it first.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fans of the PC game steer clear, October 9, 2003

This review is from: Heroes of Might and Magic (Video Game)
I'm a big fan of the computer version of this game, but I was very disappointed in the PS2 version. Just about everything that makes the computer game challenging and interesting is severely limited in PS2 version. This includes magic, creatures, resources, heroes, and especially the plot. There is only one real scenario, which has a fairly simple plot. To be fair, the graphics are great compared to the other version, but when the game doesn't keep things interesting, that's not much consolation.

This is a really good series for the PC, but this crossover to the PS2 doesn't really do it justice. Still enjoyable, just not as much.

THIS GAME IS PRETTY MUCH LIKE THE PC VERSION. IT IS A REALLY GOOD STRATEGY GAME. THERE ARE A COUPLE LITTLE THINGS THAT I DON'T LIKE ABOUT IT THOUGH. FIRST, WHEN YOU ARE IN A BATTLE AND KILL ONE OF THE ENEMIES, THEY STILL HIT YOU ONE LAST TIME AFTER YOU HAVE DONE ENOUGH DAMAGE ON YOUR TURN TO KILL THEM. SECOND OF ALL, I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY SOMETIMES YOU CAN'T HIT THE ENEMY AFTER MOVING INTO POSITION. OTHER THAN THOSE TWO LITTLE THINGS, IT REALLY IS A VERY GOOD GAME.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's still a good game., April 24, 2001
This review is from: Heroes of Might and Magic (Video Game)
OK, if you are going to compare it with the PC version you are going to be very disappointed. If you see this game as a new game, a totally different game, nothing to do with the PC version then you might like it a lot.

By the way, also very addictive.

1.0 out of 5 stars worst mistake ever, December 17, 2002

I should never have bought this game. Check this out.

Bad
- slow gameplay
- terribly stylized characters
- incredibly slow combat sequences
- very limited spellbookss
- bad economic balance
- your main character or "heroe" hardly influences the battles
- long and boring treasure hunts
- some of the monster regenerate so if you are too weak to kill them, you have to give up

Good
-NOTHING

I played the game for 2 hours to see if maybe the game would get better but trust me, it's not worth playing.
