First, just marry me. I love all the people who have been trying out the books after watching the show. I will say, you can read the books in any order you want. Try The Inner Circle. And most important, thanks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Companion Book for Daughters Packed With Role Models March 16, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
"Heroes for My Daughter" by Brad Meltzer will make a wonderful gift for a daughter or grand-daughter that can be read to them several times.

This is a follow-up book to Meltzer's best-selling "Heroes for My Son" published in 2011. "Heroes for My Daughter" is a collection of stories about the lives and accomplishments of 55 extraordinary men and women whose virtues the author wanted to share with his daughter when she grew up.

Some of the heroes are known around the world while a few are lesser known. They represent different times in our history and are drawn from different walks of life such as athletes, teachers, artists, presidents, investors, scientists, explorers and spiritual leaders. They were selected by Meltzer to inspire daughters and grand-daughters to find their place as useful citizens and contributors to society.

Some of the heroes selected that I enjoyed and thought were very good role models for young girls are Jane Goodel, Judy Blume, Golda Meir, Thurgood Marshall, Agatha Christie, Sojourner Truth, Wilma Rudolph, Marie Curie, Amelia Earhart, and Abigail Adams.

In his introduction, Meltzer offers this sound advice for his daughter: "Forget the prince. With your brains and your resourcefulness, you can rescue yourself. And when you have your doubts - as we all inevitably do - you will have this book, full of people who were wracked with just as much fear, but who also found the internal strength to overcome it." A good read, especially for daughters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Enjoyed this March 16, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
This book is a wonderful compilation. The entries on each person ARE short and basic but they get right to the point and give enough information to show why they are special people. I like that they included people such as his grandmother, which shows how everyday people can be heroes in someone's eyes. I love that my daughter was interested in it and I think if the entries on each person were longer she wouldn't have finished the book. Keep in mind that it was written for the author's daughter and not meant to be a history lesson. This is a book that will spark imaginations and encourage children to realize their dreams.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 11 year old loved this book March 15, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I gave this book to my 11 year old daughter and she absolutely loved it. For two days she could not put the book down and she was quoting facts about the different people in the book. No matter where we were driving, she was reading the book. The bios are short, so kids can get a feeling about the subject quickly. The list of people is interesting (I mean the Three Stooges as heroes) and the author explains why each one is in there.

I would recommend getting this book for your girls and also getting the authors heroes book for your sons. They really aren't gender specific, so the kids can share.
