Disappointing,

I don't usually comment on soundtracks but I feel compelled to comment on this one as it's supposed to be the sountrack for the TV series Heroes. If you're looking for music you heard as part of the show, then you're in for disappointment with this collection. Of the 18 tracks, only 3 or possibly 4 are ones that you would actually have heard in or associate with the show. The rest are, as near as I can tell, just songs that might have been playing - briefly - in the background of a particular scene, usually where there was a radio or a TV on or someone in the scene was listening to music. None of them are really ones that you make you think of the show.
Also, it's rather a stretch to term this a "deluxe" version as there are no additional tracks when compared to the standard version. The only real extra is in the fold-outs in the CD sleeve which have a few - emphasis on few - of the clairvoyant paintings you see in the show. The rest of the paintings in the fold-outs are merely artistic representations of the singers and musicians behind the other songs on the CD. If you want the actual soundtrack music from the show, done by Wendy and Lisa, then you really want the standard version as every track on that CD is music (with some of the narration) from the show. This version only has a handful of of those tracks and costs more. There really is nothing in this "deluxe" version to warrant a higher price. All in all, this particular CD is little more than a rip-off.

Not really a soundtrack, just a mix CD.,

Only the first track is recognizable from the TV show. The rest are essentially "filler". If the people who put this out are going to make a mix CD, they should call it such, instead of labeling it as a "soundtrack". The tunes provided range from mediocre guitar, bass, and drums arrangements (like we haven't heard that combination anytime recently), to some international tunes. A couple are interesting, the rest are boring. This is essentially what I would classify as a greedy ripoff of fans of the TV show, since they get almost none of the BGM actually featured in the series.

FYI: Very little Wendy & Lisa,

Just a warning, if like me you bought this because you are a fan of Wendy & Lisa, only 1 song on here of there's is over 30 seconds long! There is another version that apparently is all W&L, but this is not the one.
A couple of the other songs are quite good though, especially the Death Cab For Cutie & of course the Bowie Heroes is a classic if you don't already have it in your collection.

This Heroes Delux ed. soundtrack has got lots of different flavors in it. I really like the album art that came with it! Open up the album for the first time, and you'll find windows of art pieces that display our "Heroes" characters, as well as some of the artists on the soundtrack, which are exhibited in the painting styles we are used to seeing in the show.
In this soundtrack, I heard a lot of songs I wasn't used to hearing, and the styles vary from classical to folk to pop. There are even some flavors of latin, jazz, and hip-hop. It's an easy listen and Awesome driving music. Some songs like "Weightless" and "All Things Must Pass" deliver very nice alternative, and rock styles that fans of these genres are likely to enjoy. I really loved These two songs -best of the album! Songs like "He's Frank", "All For Swinging You Around", and "Glad It's Over", have a classical, almost retro pop feel, which I liked. I had never listened to these types of music before, but they were nice to hear and are easily some of my favorites. Others such as "Man in the Long Black Coat" and "Heroes" give a very folk/country feel. There are songs like "Maya's Theme", "Fire and Regeneration", "AboneCroneDrone 3", that have Latin, Jazz, and Middle-Eastern influences. "Keep My Composure" and "Not Now, But Soon" produce cool raps, and heavy hip-hop sounds, that maintain a nice balance in the album: a slower, and deeper mood. There are nice bands covering the background of these songs that also speed up the pace a little bit, but in a much heavier way. It really balances out the lighter, fast-paced songs in the soundtrack. Whatever your musical tastes may be, remember that these are the songs were picked by the people respoinsible for the creation of the Heroes "World". They wanted to give you a taste of the kind of music that they like to listen to, and at the same time stay true to the core that makes "Heroes" what it is. The entire soundtrack features the deep, mystical, inspiration and humanity, and excitement, that we find in the show! And that's the point -to be able to experience all these differences and celebrate them on a soundtrack! They a great job on this, so Buy Now! Don't miss out on this soundtrack as both an album that will remain in your classic cd collections for frequent listening, and as an AWESOME piece of "Heroes" Artwork and Memorabilia! |
